Thread Topic: I believe in souls :P

I think we have souls.
They make up our entire body. They are us: Our personality, our strange behaviors, our flaws and our talents.
I know some of you will say that our talents our from our DNA but how can you pass that kind of stuff down? You can pass the physical appearances, because the belong to external body. But the internal body, your soul, wouldn’t you get that from your parents?
Kind of like a cell, how it splits to make two. I think a little bit of your soul would go to your children, which is how they get to be like you: Like how funny you are, or how quiet you are. You get a little bit of that from your parents, but I think that’s not it, because how could you be your own person?
I think God’s part of it. He gives it to you when your born, and takes a little bit from your parents, for some resemblance. Then you’re left to fill in the rest.
Because we have our body. And when we die, what goes on to the afterlife (if you believe in it)? You can’t take your brain with you, because I know that’s probably what a lot of you are thinking.
Your brain is your soul, because that’s were you think and learn. Nope. Does you brain go to heaven or hell? Nothing on this Earth will leave Earth.
Just your soul. -
allow me to explain what i think about the talents thing:
your parents learn the skill. that skill is stored in the nuclei of your brain cells, some of the information from those braini cells get passed to yours, you have that, and develope it further.
my mother was an artist. i have these skills from her. i made them my own and now they're somewhat more detailed and i intend on passing them to my children :P like painting a neverending picture, each parent paints a stroke into it, sending a bit of themselves into the next generation. -
and honey i'm not far from you, im 15 :P
this is the religon forum, if you intend on posting here, you must EXPECT people to poke holes in it
i find comfort in knowing that those skills are MINE (MINE MINE MINE) and not given by some deity i hate with all my heart, they are what I make of them, not GOD. -
But some people are NOTHING like their parents. I for one, am not. My parents didn't draw or write, and yet I have these skills because I got my interest in them. :p
Writing isn't really a physical talent because I think of the words.
Physical talents can be easily passed down, like sports talent or drawing. I can see how that is stored in your DNA or "nuclei".
God gives us our soul. Then we make what we want with it. -
f your parents didn't givee you their your skills then it will probably come from your granparents, or even maybe great granparents.

Genetic coding isnt the only thing that influences you. Situations and personal associating does play a major role. Maybe you were introduced to alot of that at an early age? Or maybe you were introduced to it in such a way that it perked your interests.
You are discluding any and all viable and provable evidence so you can claim that a supernatural deity gave you your talents and interests. These are bronze age beliefs that were invented by man when we didnt have the knowledge to state otherwise. Now that humanity has progressed into the age of genetic mapping and mental interests, it is those ancient beliefs that slow our progress even more and shackle us to our comfortable ignorance. -
I'm not going to say what I believe. At least not in detail. But yes, I believe in souls.
-
I'm not going to deny proven facts, talents and even some personality factors are passed down genetically and some of them people learn so that they can adapt.
That's the obvious, but I think there is more to people than the obvious. -
then i must be one soulless b------.
-
I hope that there is a soul, because I want to walk up to those gates as tainted as possible, give all the saints the finger, and laugh at god right in his face and tell him that I dont believe.
Do you know what gives a god its power? A god is powerless without the belief of followers. That is why your preasts tell you to believe in god and never stray away. It's not because you'll be damned to eternal hell, it's because without believers, god will return to being nothing more than a figment in the imaginations of young children. -
Agreed with Sisi... I share your theory :)
