Thread Topic: Do you believe in evolution?
-
I know about the facts of evolution but since this semester in science we're learning about the human body so I like forgot some things of evolution. I know about this guy who was curious about animals and where they come from and like did a lot of experiments. And I think something about Galapagos Island has to do with evolution. I don't know, it's been a couple of months.
-
You mean Darwin? Literally the founder of evolution and natural selection. The guy who sparked the age of discovery and understanding? The grandfather of evolution today?
I'm personally just waiting for our modern 'dark ages' to end so we can finally throw off our shackles of religion and move ahead in the universe. -
Yeah that's the guy, Charles Darwin. His dad wanted him to be a doctor but he was so interested in bugs and animals and he made this trip or voyage searching for new discoveries...I think.
-
All I know was that each of the Galapagos islands was it's own micro community and he discovered evolution because the same species of bird had evolved differently on each.

I feel another long post coming on...
I base my belief around the fact that evolution and Genesis (the Bible; but doesn't Captain Obvious know this too?)both describe the appearance of animals in this order:
Primitive water life-fish-birds/lizards-mammals-humans
When you hear birds, you might say "But dinosaurs appeared before birds!"
This brings us to the "7 days." In the time of heaven, a day can be a billion years. Time, as a manmade concept, can't truly apply here.
So therefore, if lizards (dinosaurs) and birds appeared at *about* the same time, it could mean 10 million years apart. This makes sense. Birds, or at least birdlike creatures such as Archaeopteryxwere around when lizards were.
So for me, it confirms my belief that evolution is simply a description of what God did. -
Also another thing- If humans evolved from apes, how are apes still around? The evolution proposed by those who believe the ape theory claims that evolution improves a species while what it evolved from dies out (also called EXTINCTION.)
So why are apes not extinct? -
apes still exist because of their environments and luck of the draw. Humanity was split off from our Semian cousins and evolved differently because of it. Evolution isnt just a gradual change to better a species. It also takes into account necessity and random mutations. Unless it is deemed necessary for a species to use something or the mental and physical ability presents itself by chance, the change will never occur.
Humanity can be traced back to Africa...
We are two legged because when we hunted on the savahna's we needed to see over the grass.
We use tools because our hunting methods couldnt keep up with our reproduction rate and mentally we needed to inprove our tactics.
We use fire because when humanity started to migrate with it's food, our physical body couldnt handle the cold.
We discovered language as a means of communicating with other packs, or tribes.
And we invented religion because even through all of our great leaps in the evolutionary gene pool, our technology for the time couldnt match our curiosity about the world around us. So we invented something that made it okay to stay ignorant and blind to the world, and something to blame when life was bad and out of our control. -
"So we invented something that made it okay to stay ignorant and blind to the world, and something to blame when life was bad and out of our control. "
You could also blame "luck" but that wouldn't really be 'logical', would it? -
Luck is a slang term for the improbability of an event happening or several events happening after one another.
What matters is that where as a religious person might pray for their deity to help them and to give them the answers, an atheist would go out there and find the answers themselves. The event isnt the important part, it's how you percieve it and act apon it. -
I like the way you put this, Ork. I completely agree. Most of you guys have taken biology and geometry, right? They talk about probability in geometry. For me it was very confusing, but it ended up making sense. There's no such thing as luck.
Things evolve because their environment picks the traits and characteristics that would best keep the species alive. There's no such thing as luck. -
its very possible, and makes a lot of sence, im just not completely sure of it :\
-
Nope.
I'm too lazy to post why I don't believe in evolution right now. xD I'll do it tomorrow. -
south park?
:'D
God we missed you dude.... -
