Thread Topic: thoughts on the afterlife?
-
i'm really curious to see what you all think. what do you believe happens when we die? is there an afterlife or not? what would that afterlife be like?
i'm currently still figuring out what i believe, but i've recently been looking into the belief of reincarnation. -
Firstly, I want to congratulate you on trying to figure out what you believe in. You’ve already taken your first step towards the right path.
Secondly, you should understand that the life in this earth is the smallest part of the whole afterlife but in the same time, it is what defines your eternity.
- To help you understand the big picture:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The Day of Judgment will be fifty thousand years long for the people, but it will be made easy for the believers.”
Now, the stages of the afterlife:
1. The punishment of the grave: angels will ask the questions about your faith and deeds, depending on your answers you’ll face either ease or suffering.
- To give you an idea of what kind of suffering:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned the story of a man who used to backbite and slander others. He said that the man was punished in the grave with a punishment involving being lashed with iron hooks.
2. The Day of Judgment: On this day, everyone is resurrected and judged by Allah (God). This judgment is crucial, decides your final destination.
- To help you understand the seriousness:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The Day of Judgment is a day of extreme heat, and the Sun will be brought near to the people. They will be in a state of perspiration according to their deeds. The sweat will be up to their ankles, knees, waists, or even higher, depending on their actions.”
5. Final Destination
Heaven (Jannah): Those who lived righteously will enter Heaven, enjoying eternal peace and happiness.
- A quick idea:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “In Paradise, there are things that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever imagined.” This emphasizes the unimaginable beauty and bliss of Heaven.
Hell (Jahannam): Those who led sinful lives without repentance will be sent to Hell, facing eternal suffering.
A quick clarification:
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned, “The person who will have the lightest punishment in Hell will be a man who has sandals of fire and whose brain will boil due to the heat.” This illustrates the severity of the suffering even for those with the lightest punishment.
Please do not feel discouraged, Allah is the All-Merciful, The All-Powerful. He forgives us even when we can’t forgive ourselves.
This is an extremely enormous broad topic, what I’ve mentioned is basically a tiny, simplified, intro, even less honestly. If you or anyone else has questions, is interested to know more, I’d be more than happy to try to help you understand better. Please feel free to ask anything.
May Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) guide us all.
