Thread Topic: I have a confusion

I don't grasp the concept of Jesus (pbuh) being crucified. I understand that according to Christianity, he was crucified to save the world from sin/salvation etc. Can anyone please clarify what it means to save world from sin or dying for our sins? I'd really love to know.

I'm no expert and I'm certainly not a practicing Christian, but I was raised in a Baptist church. Here's what I gather that they believe:
All humans are inherently sinners. We all have sin, therefore we all deserve judgment and punishment- Torture, death and Hell. However, Jesus was sent to Earth by God to save us. He suffered the punishment that we deserved, through being crucified and dying on the cross. He suffered the punishment so that we don't have to. God will forgive us and show mercy if we believe in Jesus and his sacrifice.. And no. That doesn't really make sense. -
Alright, thank you very much. :)

Well, there were rules that God put in place when he created the world.
At first it was perfect, sinless, until the fall of man. You know, Adam and Eve and all that. So sin entered the world.
Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The punishment for sin is death. Hell. Eternal separation from God. And the reason that exists is because God is holy and cannot be a part of sin, or else that would compromise the nature of God.
So to make a way for people to cleanse themselves of sin, God created first the old covenant, and then the new covenant. The old covenant was the sacrificial system where the Israelites would sacrifice animals to atone for their sins. Thats all in the Old Testmant of the Bible. But imagine nowadays trying to keep up that system. In the Old Testament, God sent Prophets to testify about the coming of a Messiah who would replace the old covenant and become the new covenant.
Matthew 5:17, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Jesus speaking.)
Since Jesus was born as the Son of God and is God, he is the only one with the divine nature to NOT sin. And since he lived a sinless life, he was able to take on the sin of the world.
2 Corinthians 5:21, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
Romans 3:21-26, "But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus."
Jesus was the sacrifice. His sacrifice doesn't mean though that people suddenly stop sinning, and that there's no more sin in the world. If you believe in who he was and are saved through faith, then your sin, past and present, has been paid for by what Jesus did. You are washed clean. You'll still sin and mess up, but God will forgive you for that because you believe in Jesus and you serve God.
This is like a really lengthy explanantion sorry -
That's amazing. Thank you so much! I really appreciate the fact that you took your time to explain it to me. :)
"You'll still sin and mess up, but God will forgive you for that because you believe in Jesus and you serve God."
We will have to repent for our sins before leaving this world, right? I agree God is the Most Merciful and He is ready to forgive us at any moment, but we will have to repent right? Going by your faith, the basic conditions are
- to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son and the God
- to believe in God
- to repent?
I'm pretty sure the first two are mandatory, how about the last one? -
Yes, to repent :)
Acknowledgement that you're a sinner, and turning from that to follow God. -
wow you explained it way better than me, would click yes if you post had a "was this helpful" button

Lol thanks

There's eight parts of repentance.
1. See and acknowledge your sin
2. Sorrow and contrition over sin.
3. Ask God for forgiveness.
4. (the most important part) Trust that hee will forgive you.
5. Apologize to the person you've wronged.
6. Fix whatever wrongs you can.
7. Avoid that sin in the future.
Ok, there's one more, but I can't think of it. I'm going off of memory from my Catechism notes. I'll post it when I remember. -
I found my catechism notes from last year. Never get rid of those, by the way.
8 pieces:
1. See and acknoledge your sin.
2. Sorrow over sin.
3. Confess sin to God.
4. Ask for God's forgiveness in Christ.
5. (the most important piece) Trust that God forgives you in Christ.
6. Apologize to the person you sinned against.
7. Fix whatever wrongs you can.
8. Avoid those sins in the future. -
I see. Thanks for informing :)
