Christians say God is perfect. But God says: Do as I say, not as I do.
So God practically admitted that he's not perfect.
Maybe God isn't as egotistical as I thought. Then again, he wants everyone to follow his every order or they go to hell. So he's still egotistical. -
So hes not egotistical, but he actually is?
-
Where was he around 1942?
-
He is egotistical. Just not as much as I thought.
I should have put this in the garden or wine cellar I guess... -
no one cares
-
Then why'd you ask?
According to Hitler God was on the Germans side. -
Yeah, according to Hitler. Why would you believe that. And if God is in control, and the Germans lost, what does that mean to you?
You don't have to follow his every order to escape hell, that's not the deal. The deal is believe in God, admit you need him, and accept him into your heart, and then of course following him. And that's it. Btw, we are called to simply follow Jesus's example, it's not a you-must-follow-every-rule-or-you-die. It's just keeping a relationship with Jesus.
Anyway, your first thought, we shouldn't try to be God, that's what that's saying. We shouldn't be the ones to judge, or act like we know everything--because we don't, but God does. So we shouldn't try to be God -

DarknessNight NewbieI usually don't post in this forum because I don't like to express my opinion, but this is mainly pointed toward Stardust.
I don't want to get into a religious argument, but I am going throw out facts and support my side of the case as logically as I can.
You say, "According to Hitler". Well Magie said it, but if you didn't know, Hitler's mother was a Jew. Somewhere he did believe in God. Maybe he thought he was right. In my persobal opinion I dont think he was.
Onto the whole, "believe and you will be saved". I don't believe that. Me and you are going to have clashing ideas on what being saved means. I am going to support mine with biblical evidence.
In John 3:5 (KJV), it says, "Jesus answered, "Verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
Further explanation on this scripture, if you don't understand it. In order for you to enter heaven, you have to be born again (water baptismal). You also have to be born of the Spirit, which is the Holy Ghost, which is supported by Acts 2:38 (KJV) when the Spirit of God fell upon Peter and the apostles who were in the upper room. (This is after the crucifixion and ressurection of Jesus)
Now, as for the "you don't have to follow every rule in bible", me personally, I don't believe you have to, but here is what the bible has to say about it.
Matthew 5:48 (KJV), it says, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
What that is saying, is follow the bible the best way you know how. Take from it what you will and have knowledge about it. Be like Job, because he was a perfect man in God's eyes. God took his protection away from Job, but he still didn't curse or turn away from God. He lost everything, and he still held onto his faith.
Now, as for you last paragraph, I do agree. No one should put themselves in the position of God. No human being can do that.
We probably have different view points on the bible, but this is how I was raised, and I am fully respecting your side of things. This is just my opinion. -

Hey no I love your take on things, and the fact that you spoke out. Also KJV is very good, and the verses you pointed out. I suppose I just read it and interpret it a little differently.
As for Hitler, he might have been a Jew, I don't know. But I do know he did not have a relationship with God when he started WWII, no matter what he claimed. He probably thought he was doing good in his own eyes, but I don't believe that he was with God. There are couple verses for this one, and here's one. Matthew 12:33, "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit." And since God is perfect, and only bad came from Hitler, I don't believe Hitler was with God.
I'll try and support my beliefs with biblical evidence as well! Romans 10:9, "If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth you will be saved." And of course John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
I know what verse you are referring to. But I believe that when you accept God, the Holy Spirit then lives in your heart. I don't believe you have to be baptized to get into heaven. But I do think we definitely should be baptized! I believe it is us announcing our faith publicly, though. It's something we are called to do to show our faith. Like in that verse (Jesus speaking), if anyone accepts me before men, I too will accept before the Father, if anyone denies me before men, I too will deny before the Father. So I believe baptism is necessary, but not to get into heaven.
I'm saying that while we are still human, it is impossible to be perfect, because of our flesh. We'll still mess up. So that's why I believe you don't have to follow every rule to go to heaven, because it would be impossible to do it all! But I also believe that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. When we accept God, we receive the Spirit, so that when God looks at us, He sees the Spirit interceding for us. He then sees us as perfect and righteous as long as we are with God. Now we still mess up, but all our sins have been washed away because we accepted what Jesus did so that God now sees us as righteous and holy. Because only the righteous can enter the kingdom of God. So when that verse you pointed out says be perfect, I believe it's saying to remain in God. And yes we do that by keeping up our relationship with Him, by trying to follow Him as best we can.
I'm sorry I don't think I explained myself very well the first time. But definitely speak up about your faith! I would love to hear about your take on things. -
