No, I didn't get married and was never Christian, but this is an extremely common phrase that usually goes like "I used to be christian, but then i read the bible" "I used to be Christian but then God never showed me any evidence"....
Ok, look folks, I support and applaud your ability to think for yourself.(somewhat) I'm glad you thought your beliefs through and came out better off. BUT let me explain to you that religion is a line of reasoning. Its not whats written into some book, its not what some old preacher tells you, and it's not based on the scientific method. GET OVER IT.
When I say this I mean to direct that statement at both theists and atheists. In the case of theists, it means when people are talking about evolution sit your ass down, you can't disprove it scientifically and you can't argue religiously with scientists.
In the case of athiests, this means stop whining about contradictions or fallacy or mistakes in the spoken rules if a given religion, because the hard data is irrelevant. It DOES NOT work that way.
Why? Because religion was never meant to answer the questions that we already had an answer for. It is as dynamic and evolving a mechanism as any other humans have developed, and sometimes the aspects of it change.
the inability of the theist, and the atheist are the only real weapons they have against eachother in an argument, and the battle depends essentially on who can own up to what is and isn't fact, and what is and isnt the goal of the system their speaking of.
im not really trying to tell you guys what to do, but the same old arguments get boring. Seriously guys ive been seeing these type of arguments since elementary. Theur old news and their not intriguing, not hard to win, and don't leave room for growth. So let me suggest a new line of thought for you guys when it comes to philosophy, religion, politics and science: compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges, fruits to fruits, and never make the mistake of believing your right. Ever. -
