Thread Topic: Why do atheists have funerals?
-
If we are simply the product of chance and matter, why cry at a funeral weeping as if we are any different from the ants we kill with our feet, the beautiful intricate insects we crush on our windshields when we drive, or rats we kill with our mouse traps from Wal-Mart? If man has no essential transcendent worth, than why do we weep and hurt as if we do?
Why do worshippers of atheism get dressed up in suits, dress up the CORPSE ITSELF in a suit, hold moments of silence/reflection, all in a formal ceremony for what the atheist religion dictates is nothing more than decomposing matter? Theists' belief of man's transcendent worth answers why they do.
What is the atheists' answer? -
Atheists have funerals to mourn the death of a loved one and say their final goodbyes to that person dips---. We develop attachments to people and it is very emotionally stressing for them to be gone. This is seriously the dumbest most ignorant thread I've ever seen.

I'm still hoping he's trying to troll. This seems extremely poor.

Out of respect..? For the ones we love.
-
I have no f---ing clue, to me they're a waste of money.

Its a mourning process, and its a very traditional one. Why do you make it such a big deal that athiests are dressing up a corpse when everyone else does the same. Just because they have different beliefs doesn't mean they have different levels of respect for those they love that have passed on. And as to why we weep is because either way, religious or not, it f---ing hurts to have your best friend ripped away from you when you didn't want them to. Having a religion shouldnt dictate whether we are sad about having to live without that person. We have moments of silence to reflect the great times we had with that person because now that's all we have left of them.
Now not all atheists have burials. For my father we cremated him and held a party in celebration of his life. -
Not necessarily a bad thread, but...
Atheists have feelings, man! -
I love how you make it sound like atheists have no respect for life, yet you believe humans are intrinsically better than animals. Certainly we can't all be Buddhists and avoid stepping on insects, but what about humans makes us better? Yes, we secular types do believe all life is equal, but we believe it is equally sacred. You just make us sound like sociopaths.
