If the only thing keeping you from hurting other people is the fear of a deity, than you have more serious problems then can be addressed in a public forum.
Belief in science is not a selfish standpoint as you seem to assume. Morality is not defined by looking for the truth in the universe. Doing moral things boils down to "Hey, if I were in your shoes, I'd want someone to do this for me." Where as avoiding immoral things (LIKE STEALING) boils down to "Hey I wouldn't want someone to do that to me, so I won't do it to you."
Morality is empathy. The ability to infer how others feel. It is not written by any deity or God figure. No one tells you what is right or wrong. You have to define that for yourself.
And as for looking out for yourself and asking people to find a reason for Stealing to hurt your selfish self; consider that cruelty begets cruelty. If you go around stealing from others, then people are not going to feel bad about stealing from you. There's something for your self preservation mind set. -
Well, scientifically speaking, when you steal something, cops will come and beat you, causing deep bruises and possible internal bleeding or rupturing of you internal organs. Then you will go to jail, where large inmantes will forcibly insert their penises into your anus, causing painful bleeding and tearing. So there you go.
