Whoa, that is terrible!
-
I'm an atheist and even I think what that teacher did was wrong. The child wasn't forcing their religion on anyone.
-
I do think that that teacher shouldn't tell the girl who to idolize, but I think that the assignment was probably about a celebrity, someone in your family, or someone that you look up to (non-religious wise). Also, it was a public school, and in a public school, children can have different religions, and they might not want to hear about someone else's religion.
Also, what ten year old is writing an essay? -
IKR!! Imma bring a bible to school and see how long it is before I get caught
Why not? Are they that close-minded that it bothers them to even hear the mention of someone else's God? -
No they can't take your bible away in school. You have religious freedom. What they can't do in a public school is require everyone to have a bible
-
Did they take her bible away? The website wouldn't load all the way, so I didn't get to see it all.
I wouldn't say close-minded.... It's just that kids will most likely end up yelling at each other about why they're right and the other person is wrong and stuff like that. -
? I have nothing to say
-
Why do you post if you have nothing to say -_-
Kids should be encouraged to actually learn and write about what God they believe in. So instead of having a "Bible Studies" class why not have a "Religion Studies" class instead? Teach children of all the various religions in the world and as time goes they will pick whatever it is they believe in, or none at all.
But telling a child not to write about God (even if it is about a celebrity) should never be done -
Well those kids need to get a grip .-.
No, they told her she couldn't write her "Who Is Your Idol?" essay about God.
At my school we study world religions :) -
But some kids look up to God as their idol. How can you tell them not to write about God?
-
I know, right!
-
I'd discourage it, not forbid it, but then again I'd discourage writing essays on idols as well.
-
Why would you discourage it?
-
We as a society need to move away from such things. Notice that I never said stop the kid; if she insists, go ahead. But maybe suggest something different.
