UnLoving NewbieWe believe the things we learn in history class. We believe stories about the Aztecs and the Incas and that those events really happened.
But we do not believe in the events of Jesus Christ.
Not do Christians believe in the events of Muhammad.
Why is it that we will believe these other stories learned in school, but not these stories? What if one was taught in history class?
Would you believe, then? -
History is open to the scrutiny of the scientific method. If we uncover artifacts or writings to negate what we have uncovered so far about our history, then we reevaluate what we know and try and figure things out with the new information at hand.
Religion doesn't do that. That's why we don't believe it. -
UnLoving NewbieBible scrolls.....
-
I said reevaluate what we know.
Bible scrolls are only documented as "miracles" and "faith". These are not grounds for scientific research. City ruins, ancient law codes, MULTIPLE accounts of wars or other great events; these are all grounds for consideration. Not stories that tell you that you need faith. -
UnLoving NewbieYou believe the writings of the Incas, but not the writing of Jesus Christ.
-
And what writings would those be?
-
UnLoving NewbieI don't know, there's a ton of thing old people recorded (hehe really old).
-
And yet we don't believe their religions are true.
-
UnLoving NewbieYou just changed that to avoid the pint of what I was saying.
Idk I just don't even care anymore. -
"You believe the writing of the incas"
I asked you what writings of theirs I apparently believed.
"There's a ton of thing old people recorded"
I replied that we don't believe their religion either.
"You just changed that to avoid the pint of what I was saying"
On the contrary I feel i was sticking to the subject. What point were you trying to make? -
UnLoving NewbieI don't even care anymore.
Whatever point I was trying to make doesn't matter -
It's because if you believe in the Cristian faith (God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit etc) you change. The Christian faith requires you to trust in God and have a large amount of faith.
Believing in other parts of history will not change your lives to such an extent.
The bible says "You were taught, with regard to your formal way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds, and to put on your new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians Chpt4 Ver22:24 (NIV) -
UnLoving NewbieBut we just automatically trust our history teachers or what? ._.
-
why do we accept some things on faith and not others?
well there's two tiers of acceptance. the first is just acknowledging that people who are considered credible in the field have said it, and you lack the interest to probe further.
the second is when you have probed yourself and the evidence seems substantial.
This type of reasoning can just as easily be applied to religion as any other discipline.
Don't fall for it when people tell you any one set of beliefs is inherently trustworthy, or untrustworthy.
It's just a maturity that comes with education to realize the odds of anything being exactly spot on true are basically nill. so you have to pick the one that seems the best of what there is.
