Eternal life.
Paradise.
Peace forever.
Happiness.
Blessings.
Love.
Why do people pass this up every day?
When you hear on TV "Enter the drawing and you could win everything you see here!", you take up the offer right away. You enter yourself in that drawing.
Yet you pass up the greatest offer anyone could ask for.
Heaven.
If it doesn't exist, no harm was ever done.
If it does, you get everything you see above.
And more than you ever could've imagined.
So, why, I ask. Why is this offer passed up every day? -
Kinda like the drawing ~
It was free to enter, so no harm was done by entering.
But if you did end up winning, you could have everything above. -
That's right folks! Heaven, the great beyond. Just sign on the dotted line, come it weekly, claim subservience, ignore logic and reasoning, deny anything that doesn't adhere to your personal beliefs, maybe give regular tithings, be expected to hate anyone we tell you to hate, and it can be all yours!
After all, we're the loudest so we're obviously right! -
I'm not passing it up, I've just realized it is a lie.
-
^ Even if it's all a lie, you wouldn't lose anything.
But if it's not a lie, you would gain everything. -
Damask, I'm going to open up and share a little bit about myself with you.
My greatest fear, (literally terrifies me) is to feel like I've lost my identity. The idea of losing who I am or being turned in to someone I'm not is horrific.
If your opinion is correct, then that means by ignoring everything that I hold valuable and throwing all of my money, time, energy, and thought in to the Christian God, that I can go to heaven and become a mindless follower there.
On earth I would have to give up everything that I hold dear to appease your church.
And in heaven I would not only be a mindless follower, but I would feel no sympathy for the countless billions of people who would be getting tortured in hell. I would become a heartless hollow shell of a person. I would lose everything that I am and be brainwashed in to mindlessly following a deity.
Believe it or not, your "promise land" is the single most terrifying thing I have ever heard of. -
1. What is it that you feel you would be giving up?
2. What makes you think you would be mindless?
3. Why do you say you would be brainwashed?
4. That's the exact reason Christians try to covert people; they feel horrible for the people that go to hell. Therefore, they try to prevent that. But once in Heaven, they will feel no pain or sorrow because Heaven is prefect and here is no pain there. -
^ Wow that's how I should've explained that in the first place. *in thought* Thanks for the inspiration! I'm off to make a thread ---

"But once in Heaven, they will feel no pain or sorrow"
Then what are we but passive and mindless. Once in heaven, would you even be aware that billions of people are being tortured? Or would your God choose to remove that from your brain? Sitting there in ignorant bliss and just expected to worship. Or if you were aware, are you just going to sit back and relax and not care? Heartless. Soulless. No matter how you slice it, people wouldn't just sit there passively if they were still themselves. You'd have to lose a piece of who you are to do that. -
Once we get to Heaven, the burden of grief and pain is lifted from us. We believed in him and followed him and now we are rewarded. People constantly say how cruel God is to us....yet you're comaining about him making our pain disappear? Pfff making pain disappear isn't generally looked at as a cruel gift.

A wise man once said, "Hell is when the person you are, sees the person you could have been."
I want to end my life with no regrets of how it was spent.
And if I saw the "me" you're talking about in heaven; unphased and uncaring to the suffering of others. Unwilling to fight for them with his "immortality", I would be ashamed of that person.
Grief and pain, while bad, are a part of who we are. The pains I've experienced in my life shape who I am. Just as the pains you've experienced in yours have shaped you. We learn from our pain. Through our grief we can grow.
You're trying to offer me promises of spending an eternity where the only thing I have is a desire to praise the very being who took away my ability to feel. That's not heaven. That's a hell worse than hell. -
Your time here on earth is your time to fight for others.
Which is exactly why we try to convert. Our chance is now. -
You completely missed my point. Either that or you got my point and are saying that once you die, you aren't going to care about other people. In which case you are even more shallow and heartless than I thought.
-
So, you basically just said that Christians who don't try to convert are shallow and heartless. Therefore you are saying that Christians convert because they care and well yeah we agree
So....let me get this straight.....
Not caring about other people once in Heaven is terrible to you?
But not caring about/loving/following God even though he died for you isn't?
