But what do they believe?
-
what do who believe? Catholics and Atheists?
Well I can't speak for Catholics, I haven't been one for years and the details of it never made sense.
Atheists for the most part stand by the understanding that there is no reason to believe in a God or Gods. Everything else is a variation of this.
I don't believe in a God or Gods because everything that was once considered the power of God has been explained by science and understanding. And even though we may not know everything, I see no reason to assume that a deity, who has been falsely taking the claim for what happens in the natural world, should be given any credit for anything else simply because we haven't gotten around to figuring it out yet. -
Yes.
Oh
@Last2 - Ah, so they don't believe in anything? -
Just because everything that was explained to be done by god by some religious people turned out to be wrong doesn't mean that there is no god.
-
Atheists believe supposedly in Satan.
Christians believe in one God and are kept tight to their religion. -
Catholics (I think) worship God and Mary. Since she gave birth to Jesus. I think that's the religion with all the saints too.
Don't count on my information, though. :P I'm usually wrong when it comes to religion. -
Atheists don't believe in gods, and use science to answer everything about this earth.
I'm not Catholic, so I don't know their exact beliefs, but they are theists. So they believe in god, and most likely Christ. -
I as someone who believes in a god, use science to answer everything about the Earth.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church allows Catholics to believe whatever they want as far as science is concerned. Your more intelligent Catholics believe in much the same things an atheist believes, except that a God has caused it. Your less intelligent Catholics just assume everything is God.

Catholics are more or less the same as most Christians. The major difference between Catholicism and Protestantism is that Catholics believe that salvation is achieved through both faith and good works, whereas Protestant teaching dictates that faith alone brings salvation.
As for atheists, the basic definition is that they don't believe in God. I was an atheist for awhile, but I would describe myself as an agnostic now. Personally I find most atheists to be as sanctimonious and dogmatic as Christians or people of any other religion. I personally hate organized religion, but if someone has faith in God, I don't have an issue with that. As long as you aren't passively waiting around for your prayers to be answered, I don't care.
