Thread Topic: I think the disbelief in greater beings is somewhat ignorant

This is more of a "Religious beliefs aside/Logical thinking" sort of think.
-
Yeah I have one thing in common with them. But 99.99 % our beliefs are different.
Even those logical thinking religious people need to ignore somethings in their religion to think like that because the god they "define" is far from being infinite. It's more of a human king. -
And yet you're the one claiming that there can only be one.
And if there's no need to worship it, then why even concern yourself with its existence?
We have no evidence saying there is one, so where are all of you drawing the conclusion that there is? My guess would be your parents, your church, your upbringing. The indoctrination that people are faced with from the time they are old enough to think. The idea that there MUST be a god has been beaten into our heads since birth. It still influences our judgement. Your free choice and opinion hasn't been totally free your entire life. And until we realize that we have been getting lied to since birth and that we are victims of that indoctrination, we will never have an uninfluenced choice on god.
Look at all of the attrocities of religion through history. Look at the crusades. Look at the Salem witch burnings. Look at slavery or the Nazis. Look at all of the blood spilt in the name of a God that we have all been told is "all loving" since we were born.
This is our war. It's not a physical war. It's not a cold war. You may think it's a religious war, but even that isn't true. This is a mental war. We have no Great Crusades. We have no Nazi regime. And we have no Salem burnings. Our parents telling us to not question God is our Great Crusades. The everpresent big brother church figure that saturates every aspect of our culture is our Nazi regime. And the slander and fear tactics used to keep us complacent within the "house of God" are our persicutions.
This is our war. It's a mental war. And it's raging on around us every day. -
I'm sorry Bob,but you're absolutely wrong about me.
My parents are almost irreligious.
The only evidence I got to believe a god exists is that the creation of this world by a god makes MUCH more sense to me than it being created out of nowhere(almost BS).
And the reason I want to concern myself with god is that I like it to exist.I love to have a bigger friend who always listens to me,understands me.I like to believe there's another life for me,one that I achieve my dreams there. It's just me so please don't judge.
See?You're not always right. -
Vik, do you put your faith in the Christian God?
-
The christian god isn't a god.As I said,it's more like a human king,so no.
-
So you've made up your own?
-
Yep.If you've read my post in the last page, you'll know what I mean.
-
I do know what you mean. And it's pointless. If a god remains totally discrete and beyond any reason to even acknowledge its existence, then what is the point of even claiming one in the first place. If we want to stand on proof, then you're even worse off than the Christians. If we want to stand on philosophy, then you literally have none. If we want to stand on probability, then you aren't even trying.
You have nothing to stand for. You have nothing to claim and present absolutely no reason or logic behind anything you're saying. You're literally leaving it at "Yep, he's up there. I don't know what HE is, but he's up there. Without a doubt." -
Viktor I don't think you got the concept of this thread at all.
-
@Bob
My proof is that this world needs a creator,so there must be a god(s).
My philosophy:Religions claim the same thing, but what they describe as god doesn't make sense.
And for probability, the existence of a higher power(s) is kind of obvious, but for the claim I make for my god,it's kind of a personal opinion.
So briefly,this is my claim:
"There is a god(s),and that god(s) isn't the one in religions."
That is my claim. When I claim that god is one or infinite,it's just a matter of probability. So if you want to argue my post, please talk about the text in quotation. -
First line: My name. (Hey, that's me!)
Second line: An assumption based off an opinion.
Third line: Not true, but we can agree on theistic gods.
Fourth line: The existence of a higher power isn't obvious at all. In fact, looking at what we know of the universe and considering the probability for something outlandish to fit in there somewhere, a God is the exact opposite of Obvious. It's obscure and unlikely.
Fifth line: You're basically claiming your entire standpoint is "God did it." Correct? -
(I'm going to bed. Go ahead and post a response if you want. I'll answer it tomorrow morning. But goodnight for now bro.)
-
I don't get what you're arguing.Let me ask you some questions:
How was this world created first, like what was the very first thing that started all this? -
We don't know. But at one point we didn't know how the moon floated above us. At one point we didn't know what lightning was. We didn't know why we had seasons or what an eclipse was. At one point, all of that was acreddited to a God. And we found a scientific explanation instead. So while we do not know where everything came from or if it even had a start at all, I am confident in the fact that as our understanding of the world grows, the amount of "miracles" God can take credit for shrinks.
Now, let me ask you a question. Why do you believe in a God?
