Thread Topic: Right and Wrong:

So lately I've been hearing people talk about what is right and what is wrong. People on here are arguing about religion - and I'll admit it, I'm one of those people - but lately I've come to realize that no one can determine what is right and what is wrong for anyone except themselves.
I'm a Roman Catholic. I believe in my religion. I believe that what I believe is right. I do not believe, however, that the Muslim across the street is wrong. I do not believe the Jew is wrong. Hell, I don't even think the atheist is wrong! Here's why:
1) I can only determine what is right and what is wrong for myself. I have no right, politically, legally, spiritually, humanly, or otherwise to judge others or their beliefs.
2) We are all people. If I told someone that they're wrong because their beliefs differ from mine, I would be no better than the slave owner from the 1800s, the racist from the 1900s, or even the homophobes today. We are all the same.
3) We all have emotions. I, as a Christian, have a deep love for God, just a Jewish person does. Also, my love for God is the same love that any Islamic person has for Allah, or any Hindu might have for his gods. Atheists might not believe in a deity, but that's not to say that they don't have emotions for their beliefs. Atheists believe that there is no god, but their search for the what is the truth in their eyes is just as powerful as any theist's love for his or her deity.
So again, who is to say what is right or what is wrong for anyone except themselves?
"Good and bad are but names very readily transferable to that or this; the only right is what is after my constitution, the only wrong what is against it." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, from his "Self-Reliance" essay. -
I agree.

True that. :3

The only things that are morally wrong are things that hurt others. It is wrong to kill, rape, steal, abuse, torture, lie, and screw people over for your own self-interest. Other than that, there isn't anything that can truly be called "wrong".
