Thread Topic: yet another thread about how I hate religion
-
When did it become a measure of piety to enforce your religious beliefs on others? This could have just as easily gone in politics actually. What I mean in particular is how religiosity is somehow defined by how much you believe your way should be the rule of law for everyone, including people who don't believe the same thing. Things like requiring prayer in school would fall under this category, among other things. I also have to wonder, is this exculsive to Christianity? You seem to see this most from Christians, particularly in fundamentalists in America. The only other example I can think of is radical Islam, the people who are willing to fly airplanes into skyscrapers for their religion. That's not very good company to keep.
This strikes at the root of my issue with religion, it seems almost as if it were created with the purpose of dividing people and giving them a reason to hate each other. What do you guys think? Have you ever had any truly positive experiences with religion? Have you been party to religious authorities who have encouraged you to love the world instead of condemn it? Does the bad outweigh the good? -
Any thoughts at all?
