There are two main theories.
1) Psycological Nativism
or
2) The Blank Slate Theory -
It's hard to choose which one is correct.
The argument being nature vs. nurture, it could really be both. A person born deaf could develope a movement based language (not ASL) on thier own. But that could be due to the actions of those around them, and not thier own independant mind.. :| -
I think it has to be a mix of both. Though we have our own independent way of thinking, our environments add to the shaping of who we are. The constant pull and push of the inner being and the outer world. x3
