Hell, it's hell.
Okay, so maybe I'm exaggerating. Honestly it really isn't much different from middle school, just everyone's older. :P -
A bit like an ancient feudal system, or warring tribes, but in which the warring factions are forced to work together in a system of various profession-like roles for either a reward or failure, in which you must repeat the level of challenges if you fail.
The warring tribes have some degree of power over other tribes. The most powerful, influence-wise, are the Populars. They are usually assisted by the Jocks or a similar tribe, since these tribes are so closely associated they even overlap sometimes, and a member of the Jock tribe can be a member of the Popular tribe or vice versa.
The powerful tribes tend to enforce this control over other tribes, especially the Nerd tribe or the Geek tribe (often the same or closely allied tribes). However the Nerd tribe is the most skilled and usually keeps the damn place running, if not by force from the ruling class.
Other tribes lie on the fringes, such as the Goth tribe or the Emo tribe. While they lie on the fringes, don't assume them to be accepting. The typical attempt to form an alliance with them results in an oppositional relationship and the label of "wannabe."
Other "fringe" tribes roam the area, such as the Douchebag (bully) tribe, the Stoner tribe, and the Idiot tribe. These tribes are usually too different to accept anyone.
Then there are loners and "mixed-blood" people, who don't associate with a tribe because they are too antisocial or related to multiple tribes and therefore can't ally with either of them. I am one of these people. I am alone for both reasons. When in this wonderful category, be sure to keep your guard up at all times because the tribes, especially the ruling tribes, will take a suspicion to you or see you as an easy target for an attack.
If you are skilled, this makes you even more of a target. The tribes are cowardly and often too unskilled to work without the help of others, often obtained by force and slave work. If you learn to fight them however, they will stay away. I learned how to fight them the hard way in 8th grade. I fought them and won the right to my own hold in the place of the culture. While still unknown and alone, I am left alone and allowed to thrive on my own.
Overall, high school is a battlefield of social Darwinism and the need to either be a member of a tribe or fight to the right to succeed. It is hard to escape with honor, trust, and dignity, but is possible. I'm doing it, well, the honor and dignity part anyway.

Remind me if I left anything out. This post will drag on if I mention all of the nuances of high school. -
It shouldn't be too bad if you have friends or a grup to hang out with, try to focus on your school work though cause falling behind is a b---- XP

It's just like middle school. You'll be fine, unless you piss off the seniors.
-
It's hell.
No, I'm just kidding
I'm going to be in the senior grades next year.
The freshmen are so f---ing cocky it pisses me off, just because you're in high school doesn't make you cool instantly.
However, my school is VERY different from regular schools, so we lack a lot of things most schools have: we don't have as much bullying as the other schools.
My school is just f---ing awesome, so I can't call it hell. Other places are hell though. -
Appay's post is like the words taken right out of my mouth. x3
