Ok I'm going to sound like a little crybaby in this but I really don't give a s---.
My chorus teacher teaches 6, 7, and 8th grade choruses. She gives vocal lessons to the 7 and 8 graders because that's all she has time for. Me, Tori, and Sammi all wanted vocal lessons so we could get a solo. Somehow Colton found out about these lessons so he wanted to go. My teacher didn't want to say no, so he showed up today. Sammi was sick so it was just me, Tori, and Colton.
We are singing The Greatest Love of All by the late Whitney Houston. In our vocal lesson, we all sang a different solo from the song that we wanted. I wanted the big dramatic one and she said I sounded really good on it and she said she was going to give it to me. But in chorus, when I started singing the solo that I earned, Colton was singing it too and over-powered my singing. Ms. Arlotta gave him the solo that I earned on my own.
He always gets everything he wants! From a main part in the musical when he didn't even try out, to a vocal lesson, to the big solo that someone else had earned.
That sounds pathetic to you guys, but whaetver, I'm pissed at him and I just needed to get that out. Ugggh -
Well, I've been there myself. In my choir class when I was in 8th grade, and there were mainly 7th graders in it. So they voted for the girl in their class for one of the solos. *shrugs* Sometimes it's more about popularity than true vocal talent. :/

Ya I guess. The students don't have a say in the solos. Ms. Arlotta does. But, it's kinda like popularity. She picks obvious favorites.

I know how you feel. I hate how everyone just goes with whoever has a reputation for being a good singer.
My friend Grace, I love her, but sometimes she's too perfect. She's an awesome singer, but before she even tries out for something everyone will bet on her getting it.
There was a solo for The Water Is Wide and I love it, it's beautiful and fits perfectly with the song. One girl, Gabby, tried out. She has a reputation for being a good singer. After she auditioned everyone shouted, "GABBY SHOULD GET IT!" and then they said, "IF GABBY CAN'T DO IT, GRACE SHOULD!" >:O It's like, are you fucking kidding me?! She didn't even audition yet and everyone wants her!
Of course, I'm an alto and I'm not "known" for good singing so everyone in the choir thinks I suck and altos never get anything in our school. I actually try really, really hard for things but I never get them. It's so unfair because Grace didn't even try before she was garunteed the backup! The teacher told me I did amazing for an alto and was considering me, but she went with te majority. -.-" She only got it because of a popularity contest! I hate how everyone relies on others' opinions for eveything!
This is just like Junior Districts. 4 people in my school tried, Grace, Abbey, Mikalya, and myself. Everyone was all like, "Oh Grace/Abbey/Mikayla, you're so amazing! You'll get in for sure!" They're all sopranos. For a while we had to rehearse in class and they got complete silence, compliments, praise, everything. I wasn't asking for a pity party, but really guys? They wouldn't even shut up while I rehearsed! Same on the car ride to the school. While the sopranos went I had to shut up, but during my turn to practice what happens? Grace is shouting and squeeling and giggling over texting a guy she knew for a week, "I luv u!" and stupid new relationship crap like that. I get no damn respect!
Then when we finally got the results only Grace got in. "Good job for trying!"? Yeah right. Just, "Grace, we knew you were going to get in!" and "Congrats Grace!" It's so irritating! More people tried out than just Grace and the rest of us did pretty damn well too! In fact, I think Grace put the least effort in! She never came to practice, whereas I came whenever I could (which was twice a week), and even Mikayla and Abbey who have packed scheduals came more than her. It's so unfair! -
I know it's irritating when the popular people get it. I am a soprano too but it usually depends on how low the solo is or how high for if a soprano or alto gets it.
