Thread Topic: Think I might be depressed...

K, so I've been reading up on common symptoms of teen deprression, and here are some that I have:
- feelings of anger, sadness, guilt and worthlessness
- low self esteem
- changes in sleeping and eating habits
- thoughts of death and suicide
Now, I'd like to seek help, but I have a few problems.
a) I'm not totally sure I AM depressed.
b) I don't know how to bring this up to my parents...
My mom has a mental disorder (related to both bipolar and MPD) and I'm also concerned about the depression within genetics.
Any thoughts? -
you ARE depressed! you should tell a person you trust, please dont beat yourself up, I know everything will be ok soon, but you have to tell someone that can be trusted, and the person might help you

Depression isnt a genetic disorder. I can garantee you that. Are you having problems in your life? Is there somthing holding you back? Maybe its just a temporary thing. If you arent quite sure,i will advise you to talk to childline. They can talk to you online right now and help you. But for now, i really think you should eat properly, (that will make you feel better. Force yourself if you have to), and get some sleep. Dont lower yourself. Your a beautiful person, and i dont need to see you face to face because everyone is. You ARE worth somthing. I promise you. But, if you need help, please speak to childline. they can and will help. :)

Just about everyone goes through this sometime in their life from what I understand. Heck, I'm even going through it right now :P
What I do, is I try to find things to keep me occupied. Like, that could be reading, or watching my favorite show, doodling, ect.
If someone in your family has some sort of depression, you're more likely to get it, but it's not garunteed. Like, a lot of people in my family get depression because of that reason.
But, it's good to talk about these things. If you want help, all you have to do is tell your parents that you're feeling down and ask for support. It's a lot easier than people seem to make it out to be.
Get better, hun! -
When that happens to me, I make myself some popcorn, watch TV and movies non-stop, read a good book, cry, write and pet my cat.
