Thread Topic: What do you think about self-diagnosing?

I can't really say I'm all for it. For me, it's just weird seeing people going around and telling other people that they have disorders or illnesses without being professionally diagnosed, and yes! they're completely sure. I just think getting diagnosed by a licensed professional is always the best idea if you wanna be super sure.
I'm completely fine with people *thinking* that they have a disorder and suspecting it, and I guess I'm okay with people temporarily self-diagnosing until they can see a psychologist for confirmation, but I don't like self-diagnosing by itself. I don't really agree with it.
What do you think? -
Also, do you guys think being against self-diagnosis is ableist? (Ableist = being prejudiced or hateful towards people with disorders/illnesses). This was a legitimate question brought up in a group chat I'm in.

I look down on it. You should seek professional help if possible if you have a disorder. That way you can get a better diagnosis and cope with it better.

So many people self-diagnosed themselves with Aspergers that now the whole thing is some sort of running gag.
And those like I who have been diagnosed professionally with it since we were 5 have had to deal with people thinking it's some sort of joke.
So, I hate it when people self-diagnose. It's not a good thing to do, and it always seems to have bad results.
