My teacher told me I need to start getting use to people because soon I'll be working around them.

It's not a bad thing. That's why I never understood why things like "teamwork" were graded on my report card.

Cooperation and independence don't go hand in hand, but you can still be independent while working with people.

Independence is a good quality to have, in most cases. It means you can get stuff done by yourself, without team members helping you. If you do have team members, things usually get done quicker, especially if you are all independent people.
