My parents might have me see one, but I've never been to one before... What should I expect?

Usually with the first visit they want to get to know you so they'll ask questions about what you like to do and the like. They try to get a feel for your personality so they might ask you scenario kind of questions and they might ask you some very personal questions as to why you're there. It probably changes from therapist to therapist but that's kind of what happened with my first visit.

Okay. I'm sooo nervous. I know that he or she will be very friendly, but... my whole shy personality kicks in and then I can't even talk to anyone. I just put my hood up and be quiet.

Horrible. You actually have to speak. And they just listen. Asking so many questions.

It's not that bad, at least from my experience. I know the first times I went to see my last one I was really nervous (my social anxiety was terrible back then). After several sessions I started to calm down and it was an overall successful experience. Just make sure you feel comfortable with the person, that they're supportive and you're getting the care you need. The two that I had in the past were very nice and helpful.
