  This was something that happened in my home state of Florida recently. Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old teenager who was murdered by a member of a white neighborhood watch group. It appears that the crime was not in self-defense, as Trayvon was not armed, and some people have said the killer used a racial slur before killing Trayvon. The sheriff in the town of Sanford where this occured has yet to arrest George Zimmerman, who has been identified as the killer. There's talk the FBI could get involved because the case could be considered a hate crime. I've also heard that the case has been complicated by a law passed in Florida in 2005 that allows the use of lethal force in self-defense outside of your home.
