tongue AdvancedI don't want to play the game of "which minority has it the worst", because (1)we all have our own s--- and (2)it will always be Native Americans. But anyway, why would it be difficult to be white? White people are better off economically than blacks and Hispanics and have a greater percentage of academic acheivement. Almost all millionaires and billionaires are white. What's the big deal?
Well think about it. You're working for a living, barely scraping by, like many middle class white people are. You see that an awful lot of Mexicans have moved into your town. You know they work for a quarter of what you make, so you start to worry there's a chance you'll lose your job. In the meantime, you're struggling to pay for health insurance, the price of which is only increasing, while the black family down the street is living on welfare and gets their health care for free. Then you lose your job. It turns out all the work you can get is gone and you need more education. Meanwhile, you have to take your kids to the ER to get flu shots, and you notice how many Asians and Indians are doctors at the hospital. It upsets you that they can come right off the boat and get a high-paying job like that. The last thing you have is your religion, but then it turns out a bunch of Muslims are building a mosque right by your house. And through all this, you get to wondering what happened to your way of life? What happened to your identity?
This is what has been happening for alot of middle-class white families recently. If you ever wondered why the Tea Party or Fox News are so popular, this is why. Middle-class white people are finding more and more that their way of life is dying, and they are losing their identity as a people. I would hate to give whites the distinction of being an "oppressed minority", but things aren't as easy for us as they once were, and they're only gonna get harder. -
That's really the reason why this country is said to be made of immigrants. It's either 'they have more education' or 'they'll work like slaves for little money'. Such ways seem unfair, but it's what's going on here. It's kinda sad, honestly.

tongue AdvancedEvery immigrant group has been scapegoated or hated at one time or another. It would serve alot of native-born citizens well to remember that their ancestors were immigrants.
-
Yeah, I agree with you on that.

Yep, I'm descended from immigrants (not counting my great grandmother and beyond that because she was full blooded Apache) but seriously, people need to remember that unless they are 100% Native American and born in the U.S. then they were descended from immigrants somewhere down the line.

tongue AdvancedI don't want it to be completely lost that this is partly serious. I am criticizing hatred and xenophobia a little bit, but I also want people to understand that it generally comes from a place of desperation, and that the perpetrators of it are being taken for a ride by the system just like all the other ethnic minorities are. We've basically gotten to the point where anyone making less than $250,000 dollars a year is a minority, regardless of skin color.
