Ever since the wedding of the century, the Royal Wedding, took place on April 29th there was debate on whether the monarchy should wilt and die during these modern times, or stay and thrive with it's history. What do you think?
-
I personally think the British Monarchy should remain and thrive for many centuries to come.
I'm aware that anti-monarchists hold the view that the monarchy is selfish, dated and unneeded and irrelevant in these transforming modern times. Therefore should wilt and die.
I think the overall monarchy is very generous, evident in the charitable foundations they are in association with e.t.c. and simply with the personalities some of the monarchy possess. Yes they live off British taxpayers' profits, which some find unfair. They, though, are in full acknowledgement of this and try to return and exhibit their appreciation. Evident in their efforts with volunteering and national service. They are, after all, not "ordinary" and it is unrealistic to think that they should go out and get a "proper job"; words spoken by many anti-monarchists.
The British Monarchy is the magnificently enriched history of Britain. That provide so much in many different aspects. For all that say it is dated, they have actually gone to great lengths to ensue that they remain in these modern times - with the rest of the world. For one, by now allowing a first born, if a female, not to be bypassed by a male to reign.
I personally think anti-monarchist are unrealistic in some of their views, and necessarily harsh on the Royal Family.
The British Monarchy should reign forever more. It is one of the magnificent nationalizations and symbolisaions of Great Britain. Without it, there would be no more 'great' in Britain. -
i favor the monarchy the number one reason being i'm related to them

tongue AdvancedThe monarchy is basically abolished. They have no real power. I personally have a problem with a group of people being paid by the government to be rich, but in America, we don't call those people monarchs. We call them CEOs!
-
I hardly know anything about the British government, but to me it seems like it would just be weird without the traditional monarchy.
-
Well, France kind of already did this, gave up their monarchy. I don't know, I'm not English, I'm American, so my opinion may not be all too similar to some who live there, heh. I would think Great Britain would feel a bit more like America, since we already share much of our culture and background, if they gave up the monarchy. So really, I guess I'm just neutral on this and thinking aloud. :3

You're related to the British monarchy, Phoenix? I'm skeptical.
-
Yes, it is true that British Monarchy do not have sufficient and somewhat significant powers, in this day and age. But note I say 'somewhat' in terms of significance; HRH The Queen still has authority over parliament, in some aspects.
There is one point, and the many others I stated above about charitable associations and national service; all in some way contributing massively, over a number of years, to Britain as a society.
In my opinion, the monarchy is not abolished. How could it be when they still have respected authority and provide so much? A truly abolished monarchy is when HRH locks up her jewel encrusted crown and throws away the key - for good. -

How do you know that? Do you have any accurate evidence? I'm still skeptical.
