Thread Topic: Is FOX news fair and balanced?

tongue NewbieThe propoganda aspect is that they used his name to perpetuate the lamebrained idea that Obama's a Muslim bent on destroying America, and in a way perpetuating the idea that all Muslims are terrorists. And that's only one example: another that sticks out is that FOX News said of Al Gore supporters upset over the 2000 recount "he won- get over it", yet roundly encouraged another citizen activist group, the Tea Party Patriots, that was more in tune with their own veiws. This is a network used by a multimillionaire media mogul in Rupert Murdoch to push upon America his cruel, corporatist veiws, rebranding them as populism with messengers such as Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly.
The truth is, Murdoch has every right to do this. He has every right to use low, dirty tactics against those who don't support what he supports. He has every right to mislead Americans into believing that he wants what they want. What doesn't seem fair is the fact that he has the money to get his message out. Only one veiw is being presented really. What we can do about that is use the Internet as a means to get our veiws out. The Internet is a free network for the masses, and it can be powerful in getting out the news and veiws you won't hear at Fox News or even CNN or the other central news networks. -
Demonjoe NoviceI don't think FOX News themselves said "he won-get over it" but one of their commentators probably said that. many of FOX news shows bring on liberals to bring their point of view. Bill O'reilly brings on at least one or two liberals every night(or anyone that doesn't agree with him on a subject), even Sean Hannity brings a liberal during "The Great American Panel" part of his show. Greta Van Susteran interviews liberals sometimes too. There are several FOX news contributators that are liberals: Juan Williams, Bob Beckel, Alan Colmes and Mark Lamont Hill. They also have some host that are Democrats: Shepard Smith, Greta Van Susteran, Geraldo Riveral and Chris Wallace.
But I'm glad that you acknowledge that CNN and the others are biased too. -
tongue NewbieYou are correct Demonjoe: there are quite a few people on Fox that are more liberal. In O'Reilly's case though, any time I've ever seen his show it seems to me he only has people on who hold a different veiwpoint just to beat them down. And when I pointed out CNN is "biased", more of what I meant was that CNN, as well as other central news networks, don't seem to be practicing real journalism. All during the summer we only heard about Michael Jackson when there was a healthcare debate going on. News outlets on televisions are all corporate owned- NBC is owned by GE, ABC is owned by Disney- so all that we see is either what they think we want to see or what they want us to see. CNN does have a bit of a left-wing bias, though, most evident in their own coverage of the Tea Parties(MSNBC was worse even.)
-
Demonjoe Novicetongue, you are right about Bill O'reilly, he needs to stop interrupting his guests all the time.
The reason NBC is so biased for Obama I think had something to do with GE. Ever since the man ran for president they have been in the tank for him, and when he became president the CEO of GE became one of President Obama's economic advisors.
I don't what Disney has to gain with making ABC not practice real journalism. -
tongue NewbieIt's all pretty much ratings and money related is what I mean. Disney is a multibillion dollar a year corporation and treat any media as such, their news included. ABC tends to lean right, which does have a bit to do with Disney, since they make kid movies and all. I didn't know that about GE and Obama, though NBC leans left anyway.

The Godfather NewbieAs a viewer, I must say FOX news is fair and balanced. They offer both points of view by presenting the facts as they are, correcting their mistakes for the few made, and offer other viewpoints for both parties on their shows. Evidently it does lean towards the right, but it is balanced. If the facts they present seem "unfair" they challenge your viewpoint. Obama blames FOX for one of his many faults, but all they do is present the facts. Both parties as well! Dirt on Dems and Republicans have been presented. As does FOX news, I challenge your viewpoint on this topic.

tongue NewbieIs "Beltway Boys" still on FOX News?
-
Demonjoe NoviceWhat FOX news needs is a liberal show to make things more balanced. I think Bob Beckel should get his own show.
-
The Godfather NewbieHey tongue....actually conservatives don't consider his full name as relevance to destroying America and he is a muslim. He on fact has a few Muslim roots, and that is his name. Perhaps that is what comes to YOUR mind when you think of his name? It is a fact that FOX is a prefered news source for all parties which goes to show that you are wrong. Speak for yourself, not all Democrats. They allow guest speakers from BOTH parties, bash members from BOTH parties, and present news for BOTH parties. Look at how they criticised Bush!!
-
tongue NewbieWhen did FOX News ever criticize Bush? Give me an example.
-
The Godfather NewbieWhile in office they criticized him for not investigating the weapons of mass destruction, and taking advice from somebody under him for not picking up the facts right. Bill O'Reilly during the campaign said we don;t want another Bush in office. Check [no urls] Although there aren't many because hey, even I wouldn't post that (I don;t see the purpose), you will find a few. Also check online, or get access to Bill O'Reilly's previous transcripts with permission. FURTHERMORE.......People like Geraldo Rivera, Juan Williams, Alan Colmbes, have their own shows (Colmbes ratings went dpwn so it got shut off), and Ellis Heinican, Susan Estrich, Chris Wallace, Geraldo Rivera, Alan Colmes, Bernie Sanders, John Edwards, Mark Mellman, Terry McAuliffe, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sen. Dennis Kucinich, Rep. Charles Rangle, Minister Hashim Nzinga, Geraldine Ferraro, Bob Beckel, Lanny Davis, Joe Lieberman, Tammy Bruce, Pat Caddell, Neal Gabler, Jane Hall, Jeff Cohen, Juan WIlliams, Mara Liason, Morton Kondracke, Rosie O'Donnell, Ed Asner, Steven Baldwin, Alec Baldwin, Matt Damon, and Mile Farrell
have all appeared on various shows such as The O'Reilly Factor (almost every week a liberal guest or two are on) Glenn Beck, FOx and Friends, and more. -
tongue NewbieI see. It's a little hard to believe O'Reilly said we can't have another Bush, but I believe you. I'm guessing he was speaking objectively rather than ideologically. As for all the guests you mentioned, just because they are on the show doesn't mean FOX News is balanced. Like I said here and in another forum, O'Reilly has a tendency to bully his liberal guests. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and others are more for ratings than anything. Regarding the liberal hosts, none of them are Kieth Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, which is somewhat of a good thing. Guys like Geraldo Rivera or Juan Williams are there to bring in a more moderate audience. It's all about ratings really, but in my veiw, the fact that FOX has guys like O'Reilly, Hannity and Glenn Beck whose ratings dwarf everything else on the network shows the network's true colors.
-
The Godfather NewbieI mean, I can see your point, but as a daily viewer the bad stuff is what you catch. You may see Beck yell once on TV, but you don't know why unless you watch it. Only that gets posted on TV. As for O'Reilly, I'm going to have to challenge the statement regarding his bullying. He proves them wrong, and when they yell he yells. He certainly raises his voice, but certainly doesn;t bully. Please provide an example of that.
PS= It's great to have a mature debate finally! I thank your maturity as compared to others. -
tongue NewbieYou got me- I can't give you any real example that O'Reilly bullies his guests. At most we just have different ideas of what bullying is. But like I said, O'Reilly really only brings liberals on his show to beat them down or to bring up ratings, the latter of which he did with Jon Stewart. But obviously I don't watch that much FOX News- I tune into O'Reilly or Hannity every once in awhile to know the rival veiwpoint. Aside from that I hardly watch. Actually I really don't even watch the news much at all- it's nowhere near being the best source of information. TV news, whether it be FOX, CNN, NBC or whatever, is completely driven by profit and ratings- they tell us what we want to hear (Michael Jackson) or what they want us to know, either in 30 minutes or ad nauseum in CNN and FOX's case. Everything I know comes from newspapers, magazines, or the Internet.
-
I actually used to watch CNN about a year ago until they were biased against the tea parties. I agree with tongue that TV news is definitely not the best way to hear about what is really going on so I mainly read about the news. Though I do watch FOX from time to time (I'm an Independent) I'm not a fan of Bill O'Reilly. I think Glenn Beck has a creditable show because he's basically just stating facts so if that looks bad for the left it's no one's fault but their own.
