Thread Topic: California.

I have yet to hear a single good thing about California (Not counting LBGTQ+ related stuff...).
And I'm not just talking about the gun control thing, but that is part of it.
If you are a white cishet person living in Cali... my condolences. -
I want to know what you people think about Cali.
-
What's going on in California???
-
I've heard a few things
the main things that made me start this thread were:
1. My Mom explained that a gardening group chat she is in had a certain member in California, who is considering leaving. Why? They metered her well, the one on her property that she owned.
So now, to use HER well, she must PAY.
2. The second thing is that they made it illegal to catch RAINWATER without a PERMIT if it used for ponds or irrigation purposes.
there was something else (not gun control) that I was gonna say but I cannot remember for the life of me -
And for #1, I have found sources, that argument doesn't just boil down to "My [parent] said so", so please don't.
-
oh yeah, the 3rd one was something about the "Water Crisis" they are apparently having.
-
I lived in CA for most of my life until we moved.
There is a real water crisis. The problem is that the state's government wastes water rather abundantly and then persecutes citizens who are limited in ways that are physically impossible to live with. I remember an old neighbor getting in trouble for the grass not looking "adequate enough" when there simply wasn't enough to be wasted on watering a lawn. I remember the local USPS's watering system being broken, aimed at the street instead of their grass, for almost a month. California has had rain troubles for a long time, and it's also pretty awful at allocating resources regardless. -
1. This article here seems to explain the metering private wells thing pretty well. It brings up the valid point that often the water being drawn from these wells also comes from other people's properties. It's difficult to determine who owns what water when it's all underground and connected
-
2. This one talks about collecting rainwater.
It actually isn't illegal, but it used to be.
This wasn't to keep private citizens and homeowners from collecting and reusing rainwater, but to keep commercial concerns from disrupting natural water ecosystems by building large reservoirs with the capability of amassing millions of gallons of water that would normally flow through to a watershed.
For good reason. It was to prevent large amounts of water being removed from the water cycle which would have significant impacts on the ecosystem -
Also yeah, the water crisis is a real thing. California's government isn't regulating water just for the sake of taking away people's rights. It's so everybody can have access to water
-
(when I meant real I meant as in was caused by anything that wasn't government corruption/stupidity)
Also a question for gun control supporters: Do you people honestly think that any random Joe can just walk into a gun store, say, "Hello yes I would like 1 glock 18c please." pay however much it costs, and then just walk out? Cause that's not the case. -
Do you honestly think that anybody believes that?
Obviously people don't believe that. While it may not be that easy, it's still way too easy -
I was asking if people believe that because of a video I saw in which someone known as Brandon Herrera (A guy working on an AK that shoots 50 BMG, so you can imagine his stance on gun control) crashed an ANTI-GUN protest and pretended like he was trying to get a common sense gun law passed.
Everything he mentioned in that video was something that was already in place.
That's why I wanted to know if people believed that. -
Hey ravager, on point #1.
Would you mind sharing these sources?
It's not enough to claim that sources exist and so, people can't question you on their validity.
You need to always include sources when making claims of their existence.
And please don't try to deflect with " well I said that-" or something similar. Please just post the sources -
