This is a possible bill for Florida schools.
-
What does Disney have to do with this?
-
A bunch of people were asking Disney to campaign against the bill since Disney is one of the biggest companies to support LGBTQ, but Disney did they'd rather remain neutral to the situation.

I don’t think that they have too….. but I still think that it is odd that they don’t. Very sus…..

Ahhhh okay thank you
That's disappointing but not surprising -
I just read through the whole bill for clarity, and if it makes you feel any better is is explicitly for children between the ages of 3-7 and does not translate into sex Ed or higher education. The bill is extremely limited and is just an attempt to limit the discussion of sex in primary school since those topics might not be appropriate for 4 year olds. I was initially very concerned by the bill but after reading through it I can't actually say that it's that egregious. As an LGBT person, I personally wouldn't want my kid in kindergarten being taught things about sex. I'd say that's not an appropriate topic for them and as someone who works with kids who were exposed to such things at a young age I 100% believe it is damaging and possibly traumatizing to a child.
If there are any specific aspects of the bill that you're concerned about I'm happy to cross reference it. If I missed anything too please let me know. Im not a fan of most policies like these but this one in particular seemed pretty alright and isn't even specifically targeted toward LGBT discussion. There might be some clause that's f---ed up that I missed though so again, please let me know what I'm missing. I don't like seeing laws passed that are harmful to LGBT people but I can't help but think this bill is being labeled as something it's not. -
Please don't take my word for it. This is the only clause in the bill that's directed towards LGBT discussion so you can see the limitations for yourself and decide whether or not you agree with it. It doesn't even say kids can't discuss it, it's just that they can't be taught it by personnel.
"Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3, or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards." -
I really hope that puts you at ease a little. I'm happy to see it's not a complete homophobic power trip of a bill like I thought it was going to be.

Okay. Well, putting it into that perspective, I think that might have some fairness to it.
