It all depends on how you count it. The sperm and egg are both living cells before conception.
-
That's your opinion and your belief.
Think of it this way. If someone dies in a car crash, and a man in a hospital two miles over is going to die without a kidney transplant, even if the crash victim is a perfect match.. They can't take a dead person's organs without the dead person's consent. Even if it would save someone's life. Because of a little thing called bodily autonomy.
If my brother needs to be hooked up to me to live, I don't HAVE to do it. And if I do, I can change my mind at any moment. Again, because of bodily autonomy. You can't force someone to use their body to help someone to survive, even if it's a dead body.
In this case, a dead body has more rights than a living, breathing woman.
A fetus can't survive without it's mother, which is why the woman gets the choice. Because of bodily autonomy. -
And in both of these examples, the man and the hospital and my own brother, these are people with brains and heartbeats and consciousness. A baby, the "life" you refer to, does not have any of those.
-
While the sperm and egg are both living cells before conception, they do not have their own independent life because they have your DNA. Once they meet though, they create a separate set of genes and thus, a new life and new DNA that can never be repeated again. So no, when you jack off into a tissue, you’re not committing mass murder because that’s your own DNA. Getting an abortion though is murder because you are ending a life that has separate and different DNA from both the mother and father. Your DNA can never be replicated.
A baby can’t survive without someone else once it’s born either. So why not have the option to kill it then too?
To me, choosing not to save someone else’s life because you don’t want to be uncomfortable for a few months especially for your own family, is a very selfish act and doesn’t make sense to me because I would be hooked up to any of my family members for however long they needed it if it meant that it was going to save their life.
A baby has a heartbeat, brain, and consciousness. Where did you learn that they didn’t? A heartbeat starts at around 5 weeks, the brain starts to develop at 4 weeks, and consciousness starts to develop at 6 months (it can start as early as 5 months though) and studies have found that babies in the womb can recognize the voices of their own mothers and may even begin learning the language that their parents speak -
Well you can't just kill a baby. They don't rely on being attached to the parents body anymore, so at that point it isn't about bodily autonomy. A FETUS can't survive without being ATTACHED to the mother.
Yeah it might be selfish, but the point is, you can't FORCE someone to do this. And even DEAD BODIES have more choice than you'd like a living woman to have.
I meant to refer to the moment of conception, my bad. And even still, it should be the pregnant person's choice. You don't know their story of their situation, so it isn't your right to decide for them. -
I think that past a certain point, probably when it starts to get consciousness abortion should not be legal but before then I think it should be totally legal.
Well it being your own dna doesn't really make much of a difference when you think about it. A clone of myself would have the exact same dna as me but it would very much be it's own individual. -
^I agree, abortions SHOULD have a cut off date, outside cases where there are issues with the baby or the mother's health. But overall, I think this is a decision left to the pregnant woman and her doctor.
-
Like, personlly *I* wouldn't get an abortion because I believe it is morally wrong, but I recognize that I can't and shouldn't speak for every person who can and might get pregnant. Things happen. And not everyone has the same morals that I do. That's why I'm pro choice. It's THEIR choice.

i do think that if someone does believe that abortion is full out murder it only makes sense for them to be pro-life. if they think it's just straight murder then obviously it only makes sense for them to be pro life. they're not going to think it should be the mother's choice to murder a baby. i think the issue is convincing people that it's really not until a certain point in development. if that makes sense

Personally (this is just my opinion so don’t murder me) I think us women should have the choice of our body. If we don’t want to squeeze a baby 1/4 our body weight then yes, I think it should be okay to do it. Maybe I don’t fully agree with it because like you said, it’s like murder, but it’s their decision. Personally I would feel horrible for basically taking a life that could’ve been lived. I do agree with what Drekk said:
I think that past a certain point, probably when it starts to get consciousness abortion should not be legal but before then I think it should be totally legal.
I also agree with this statement from Chainsaw:
I think this is a decision left to the pregnant woman and her doctor.
Yes because remember, this is our bodies.
Personally I would never have an abortion or even a baby. When I grow up I want to adopt one kid who needs a home and that’s it.
