Thread Topic: You are not free.

In the United States, we have this illusion of freedom, or for the purposes of these statements, the freedom to choose your own destiny and prosper economically.
You are asked from the very beginning, "What do you want?"
What do you want to be? Where do you want to be? What is it you want out of life, and how much do you want?
We naturally choose to succeed, to own many things, to be at the top. Wealth. Influence.
But all of that is a lie.
You do not control your destiny. The economy does. Those with wealth and power do. Your only choice is to work for them. Give the fruits of your labor to them. And they dictate not only the economy, but the state itself.
And choice of career? At first. But when the economy fluctuates, loses its strength, you lose your job. You have to take a low-paying job or not get paid at all. And yet you support this because you are caught in a RIDICULOUS DELUSION, a delusion that the economy will favor you over its masters!
You have no choice.
And you will only have choice and true freedom when such elements are wiped off of the face of the Earth.
When the delusion of wealth is no longer relevant.
When you and those of your class win the world. -
that would give you freedom about the way giving money to the looter keeps you from getting robbed.

I personally find this view overly cynical. The class system in this country isn't so stratified that it is impossible for someone to break the mold. It's all about having the vision and the want-to. I think a lot of people with lesser means are told from an early age that they can't amount to anything, that they are born poor and that they will die poor. But that is not to say there isn't opportunity to get something better, its all about maximizing the little opportunities.
