why?

I'm not real sure, I'm just guessing, but maybe it's because people think it's something to be respected and only for behind closed doors, and when it's not it makes people uncomfortable.

well sexual fixation is natural in human society because of economy and possessions. See as people mature, and live within society, they accrue certain resources such as food, territory, and organizational currency.
Now when we die, there will be a large amount of wasted resources but since we have resources which are considered valuable it makes no sense to throw them away, and considering that we can trade our resources for another persons resources, then why should we give them away for free? The natural answer to the problem is inheritance.
which gave children a value greater then just the continuation of the species, and by extension gave sex an extra importance as well.
Then over time as society becomes larger and larger, and wealth becomes better and better established, sex becomes more important to society.
Anything of importance obviously has to be documented, orally, literally or otherwise, but it was just shy of impossible to prove paternity before modern medicine, so women become the bearers of not only children but the continuing economy. Needless to say, that leaves women playing the role of commodities, and within social economy commodities are regulated.
All in all, it's unprofitable for women to bear children at unregulated times. so individual couples or harems would be checked by their male counter parts in order to control reproduction over thousands of years globally. The trend is what makes the sexual taboo that you perceive today. :D -
I like this third post.

heh, and too be clear: I'm not saying this is a bad thing. It's just natural progression of economy, which is also a pretty natural occurrence in the human species

We both agree it's a fact, but we probably disagree over where to go with that fact. For example, I would probably go off on a tangent over how overthrowing capitalism will allow for sexual freedom.
-
and I would say that freedom is an internal achievment, but it is true that the civil liberties we commonly associate with freedom are more prevalant in socialist countries. but the truth is that no current society has it all worked out. They all have rosy projections but as of yet most have failed to deliver.
john lennon said "imagine a world without hate" and what we got was a bunch of angry russians, conspiring and cheating eachother out of power while the peons at their feet were drained dry to fuel their fight. ayn rand says "Imagine a world where value is repaid with value" and what we got was a few hundred ceos of mega corps that can't see two years infront of their faces and plow the planet into destruction with boths hands on the steering wheel.
in general, whether socialist, communist, or capitalist the world at large cannot be trusted and that's the truth. If you're looking for freedom of any variety: learn how to take it. -
also you're a great writer, I would probably be interested in your tangents : P

I think it is mostly taboo because of patriarchy. Surely you've noticed that sexuality is more taboo in its female form than its male form.
-
Why thank you.
Also, patriarchy has its origins in economic and class roots. -
No, I think the roots of patriarchy come from the first guy who decided he could blame a woman for being too hot when he got caught with his d--- in her. Patriarchy is merely reinforced by economics and social classes.
-
the question is: why does the blame for sex NEED to be passed?

Daleksarecuteok NoviceI'm afraid it's yet another thing that's all thanks to the media and society in general . ( I don't mean this as offensive especially seen as I'm english myself) but it's all incredibly English " Good god babies are made by physical contact , how very risque" . In the end humans are the only animal to make a huge deal out of it . Personally I think it's quite an intimate thing and that's why it's a big deal to me , not because it's wrong or uncouth merely because it's one of the rare things that is generally kept on the down low about a relationship . I prefer not to talk about sex , not because I find it rude or it makes me uncomfortable but because most of my friends think I'm very innocent and naive and I'd like to keep it that way( I find it quite entertaining to be honest) . Sexuality wise , dude I have no f***ing idea . In the end people love who they love and want certain people in their pants . Get over it .

I don't care for media blaming. Media is communication; essentially an extension of society. Then blaming society is begging the question.
society has a sexual taboo because of society.
the logic doesn't work.
