How about we remove our basic morales and ethics from politics as well? Not to mention our general view of the world? Oh, and let us remove our whole oppinion on current controversial subjects just because our religion speaks strongly of it.
-
If by morals you mean something like: "Child abortion is wrong because you are murdering a child!!!" then why not.
And about the rest of your sentence, I don't get what you say. -
Maybe if you could explain why religion ties into your politics? As in, not just "God told me to" but actually why God told you to.
You're free to add religion, just most of us want a slightly deeper explanation. It's like saying "I support X because I'm a socialist," what about being a socialist makes you support X? -
Your opinion on X would be based off of the socialist bible
-
As one bumper stick says, "the last time we mixed politics and religion in this country, people were burned at the stake".
Religion really just shouldn't be a thing at this point, so to mix it with politics is completely idiotic. God is in each and every one of us. There is no need for a preacher to speak for God, and they do a pretty s---ty job anyway. It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that abortion is wrong. The most quoted anti-homosexuality verse of the Bible comes from Leviticus, which was used in this country to preserve the institution of slavery. Leviticus should not be in the Bible on that count alone. -
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that morality exists outside of religion. I myself am agnostic. I don't need religion to tell me what's right and what's wrong, I don't need to man in the sky to guide me, and I sure dont need a bible to either. I do and don't do things because I know what's right. I reason I don't kill isn't because I'm afraid of going to hell, I don't because I know it's not moral.

Some people who are Christian are against gay marriage, but at the same time they don't take that opinion into politics and vote for gay marriage to be legal. That is keeping your religion out of politics. Just because you're against something doesn't mean you have to stop others from being able to do that.

I wouldn't go into the voting place thingy (I have no clue what those are called....I'm 15 I really have no clue) and say to myself "well, I'm just going to vote against my religion, just because others don't have the same religion".
We all have our equal votes; they can vote according for what they believe, and I'll vote for what I believe.
So why would it be wrong of me to vote for what I believe? -
As I previously said:
I understand that. But when I go to vote (pretending I'm old enough and that there's an abortion vote going on right now) I'm not going to vote to make abortion legal and think to myself "Well not everyone has the same religion as me so that would just be wrong of me to vote no even though that is what my religion says to do"
If they have different beliefs than me, they can vote yes. Why is it wrong of me to vote no? -
I said that here:

It's not wrong to vote for what you believe in, that's why we can vote.
-
My only issue with what's been said here is that if you vote solely on what your religion says instead of actually putting the effort in to make your own informed opinion, then you are not only giving someone else the ability to make decisions for you, but you're also negating the entire point of voting.
-
^ Sometimes I don't think you understand what religion is
Well if we can vote for what we believe, why can't we debate that way?
Voting and debating....kinda the same thing here. -
The point of voting is to have every single person have an equal say in what they want.
By voting how your church tells you to vote without question, the voting process becomes meaningless. It's no longer a vote of the general masses. It's whatever church has the most people following it mindlessly. They hold the sway. Not the people.
If the vote only included your church than by all means, do what they tell you to. But this is an example of the church imposing on others. By giving all of your sway to the church, you are giving your church influence over others. People who don't follow your religion. People who in fact despise your religion. That's not democracy. That's a struggling theocracy. And that's bulls---. -
Why do you assume I do whatever my church tells me?
I follow the bible.
Which is also what the church follows.
Which is also what God said.
So basically I'm following God; not my church.
Except I'm following the church too.
But not just because the church is my religion; it's because of the bible. And anyhing my church tells me can be backed up by the bible; they tell you the scriptures so it's not like they make it up.
Ok now I'm getting way off topic o-e
