actually no humans are FAR from the only thing that hunts for sport. consider cats, killing mice, and snakes. dogs chasing squirlles. farther from human domestication, the mongoose kills cobras for no apparent reason other then fun. japanese jack-jumpers attack various prey items an then forget all about them. the madagascar aye-aye shoves chicks from there nest as a game. all manner of chimps and gorrilas have been known to hunt and then leave there kill without taking the meat. the list goes on. in this respect humans are hardly unique.
also even the most sophisticated and efficient creatures on the planet survive on death. trees whom live THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of years eat the nutrients from dead animals and from the bugs in between there bark. ALL creatures eat creatures. such is the basic cycle of life.
@tongue the difference is while ellis choses the "animal" side he is unlikely to hunt humans for fun, or eat them. were'as humans frequently eat and make sport of "animals"
-
@ellis what you seem to be missing is that humans ARE animals. we live an function just like any other. we just happen to be on the brawny side of the gene pool as a species. i have never heard you object the fact that grey back tree squirrels have made there smaller cousins nearly extinct in most places of the world. nor the fact that strangler figs destroy whole ecosystems to survive. you would simply say "it is nature" so what are then, i ask? a god? an abomination? what separates you from the rest of nature? what puts you above all your other doctrine? that i believe was tongue's original point.
-
emma you still here?xD
-
Wolves are animals. They eat Deer, which are other animals. Humans are animals. They eat, let's say, chicken. Chicken is another animal.
-
tongue ExperiencedOkay so I guess we aren't the only animals that hunt for sport.
-
ELLIS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
@ellis you argue that we destroy the environment and drain resources.
first i remind you that the environment has been destroyed to the point of what scientifically refered to as "dead rock" -a point at which we have no atmosphere and no "complex" life- Many times in the past before. i believe likely humans will survive, beyond the next "dead rock event" but if we don't, even if nothing does.. life goes on.
about the resources going into agra buisiness
1. there is an OVER abundance of resources in the earth even considering the agra-buisiness to effectively end world hunger. the problem is that the people who have it, have it all and they wont share. this problem apauls me even more then if there were actually limited resources
about your animal cruelty i agree 100 percent. i eat only meat that was raised in comfort, and killed cleanly and quickly. if you have a problem with that then you are disagreeing with an efficient, humane, millennium old means of achieving energy. -
ellis you argue that humans put there own needs above other species and this makes us selfish. but is it selfish to take care of you and yours? tell me the truth- faced with the option of chosing the next say, ten people to die, will you chose your loved ones? no. you would chose, the people FARTHEST from you. human selfishness is the same. distance our loved ones from animals as a reminder of we're loyalty lies. and would you say love is a selfish distraction that should be pruned out? i think not.
you argue that you would not reduce other distructive organisms to "nature" then you take the decision upon yourself. should you decide what other creatures do? who are you to dictate anything?
for example: there are ten humans who play dice and ten who play cards. who says which game is right? who's to say there not both right? essentially species' various habits are NO DIFFERENT. -
I'm gonna have to anwser this later dude I can't consentrate worth a damn at the moment lol.
