Demonjoe NoviceAnybody thats ever read my posts before on this website can probably guess what my stance on illegal immigration. I don't actually think we should deport the illegals yet, because there is no point until we finish that fence and get up on real border security. Otherwise pretty much every illegal we catch and throw back in Mexico or Canada can just come back after we take them back to their country. Once we finish securing the border we can then flush them out.

tongue NewbieI think we need to tighten our border security, but I also think we should allow the illegals already here a chance to become citizens, if they pay a fine and meet certain requirememts. We should also increase the number of temporary work visas.

Peter Principle NoviceOne important point is that illegal immigrants range from those who just came here yesterday to those who have been here for years and put down roots. If you could find the recent ones and deport them back to their county, that's fine. But there's no way to deport all of them, including the long-timers, without causing massive economic and social disruption. So I'd say that some percentage should be allowed to stay and earn citizenship, while anyone with a criminal record or who came here recently should be returned home. This is the most sensible option. But of course without better border security, anyone can just come back in.

ILLEGAL immigrants says it all. Sometimes they're good though, sometimes they're bad. It's hard to judge them as a whole, like humans, which they are. They have identities which we should respect. Their impact on society is quite significant though so I think people should vote on it in a national vote.

Well I think that it's wrong that people just come over the boarder while people trying to do it legally have waited and done all the work to get into the country legally have to wait forever. Plus it leaves our country at risk if we have a boarder any terrorist could come over. I think they should at least pay a fine for it. It's wrong to reward someone for breaking the law.

tongue NewbieVioleta, while I disagree with you somewhat, I'm glad you brought up the security aspect of the immigration issue. It baffles that almost a decade after 9/11 that we've completely disregarded the threat that our poorly guarded borders present. The train of thought probably has something to do with Mexicans not being Muslims and therefore not being dangerous, a thought that is flawed for several reasons, the most obvious being that anyone is a potential terrorist. The Unabomber was a white guy, as was Tim McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber. The point is, security is security, no matter who we are protecting ourselves from. Our lack of border control is a threat to our national security, and not just a potential threat- dangerous Mexican drug cartels have outposts in several American cities already. The cartels probably present a greater threat than Al Qeada does to the U.S. and we let them in. Something just really has to change when it comes to our borders.
P.S. forget pennies- I should be getting quarters for this insight! -

I probably shouldn't partake in this seeing it would turn into a debate whereas I would be humiliated in but I feel like saying something...
There wouldnt be ANY illegal immagrants if it was easier to get a visa or something to stay in the country so they wouldn't have to stay in their own country because they're trying to escape bad times and such.
