that we shouldn't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance if we don't want to?
I know, it's showing pride and loyalty to this nation. But some people just don't want to say it. Mostly, it seems to be a religious issue, with the "God" line and whatnot, but other people have their reasons. (The Bible actually says never to swear an oath if I recall correctly, so those strict Bible advocates who also demand everyone say the Pledge of Allegiance...?)
Our school allows us to avoid saying the pledge or even standing up if we want to. I stand up, but I don't say the pledge. Is this wrong? -
Also it is basically indoctrination and propaganda.

I think the "God" part should stay strictly for historical reasons. The pilgrims came here for religious liberty and it is a major part of our country's history. However, if you do not believe in God then you shouldn't have to say that part if you don't want. Since some people like to own recordings of the pledge, there should even be recordings with that part left out. And if you don't want to say the pledge no one can make you say it. You'd be protected under the 1st Amendment there. Not everyone in this country likes it.
Basically, I think it should be a do-whatever-the-hell-you-want kind of thing. -
The "under God" part is actually a relic of the Cold War. It was put in during the 1950s to distinguish our country from "godless communism". It literally as nothing to do with the religious history of this nation.

Yeah, I never say the pledge because of the "under god" part. I am a christian but schools know they don't believe in GOD so what's the point. I just feel that their using him, and it isn't fair so I refrain from saying it.

Really? I was always taught it was about the pilgrims. O.o Then again, I go to a Christian school.

I don't say the pledge. I stand up with the rest of the class but I do not recite it along with them. I don't find it to be true sometimes.
