Thread Topic: Who agrees?
-
This is a little piece of anti-government rhetoric being thrown around that I happen to like: "I'll give up my assault weapons when the government gives up theirs". Does anyone else think that is total f-ing badass?
-
I kind of agree and i kind of not agree. It sounds like a badass, but at the same time it sounds stupid too.
-
I thought it was badass because the United States has the most powerful military in the world, and as long as that is the case, we should be worried that they will turn the guns on us. Until the military is scaled back to its original mission of protecting our national borders, Americans have every right to feel like they an assault weapon and large round magazines.
-
U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Amendment Two, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
This applies to military personnel as well as civilians. In all technicality, gun control is a violation of the Second Ammedment, which is included in the Bill of Rights and under the law and constrictions the Bill of Rights was written under, it cannot be changed.
Therefore, the government has no right to take away any weapon we, as citizens, wish to own. I, as an American, would like to keep my guns as protection in case someone breaks into my house. When a criminal decides he wants to commit a crime he will do it, and if he wants a gun he will obtain one whether he has to do it illegally or not.
As I have in another thread, I will bring to the table the fact that Australlia has had gun laws since 1997 and their armed robbery rates have gone up since then. The reason this happened is because after gun laws are passed and no one is allowed guns, a criminal is basically guaranteed that his or her victim will be unarmed.
Now, how does banning only assault weapons have anything to do with crime rates that are based off a country that banned guns? A lot, actually.
A criminal will simply obtain an assault weapon illegally. He can attack whichever house he chooses because it will either have no gun in it, or a gun much slower than his. Either way, the criminal has won.
Also, this isn't the only issue between the American citizens and the government. Taxes, welfare, and healthcare name just a few of them. Who's to say that once gun control is put into place the army won't be ordered to turn their guns on us in order to "keep us in line"? As of right now, the United States, the so-called "Land of the Free", is only the seventh country as far as citizens' freedom are concerned. It seems to me, and to many others, that day by day America is becoming less and less "free".
Thence, I'll give up my assault weapons when the government gives up theirs. -
The constitution is toilet paper.
-
Ha, the only thing it will constitute is an ass.
-
Meh, I don't have a gun. Everyone( well, unless if you have a gun licence and you use it for shooting,) really dosnt need a gun.
-
Unless you want to protect yourself and your family, of course.
-
Most people who own automatic weapons aren't trying to protect anyone. They were made specifically to kill human beings, so logically they would do more harm than good.
-
All the people I know who have automatic weapons have them for protection. Also, the constitution may have been written at a different time period, but it still applies to the America of today.
-
Have any of you heard the term "clear and present danger?". It is a legal precedent that allows the government to deny Constitutional rights to people who pose a clear and present danger to the government or to the people. Some of you have stated that fully automatic weapons pose a clear and present danger. They do. But first of all, I'm not talking about fully automatics. I'm talking about semi-automatics. Second of all, the government poses a much bigger danger to us.
-
Why would I only shoot someone in the leg when he or she is trying to kill me and my family? And let's say that he or she has a semi-automatic weapon and I don't. I would get shot because my weapon wouldn't be as fast as his or her's.
-
I'm not talking about self-defense from intruders. I'm talking about self-defense from the government.
-
I just want to kill people. Its jolly good fun I hear.
-
The government won't do anything to hurt us. They're too busy sucking away all our money to do so.
