"Yup." I start running, hoping that the headmaster dosn't see us.

I follow Juliet.

"JULIET! GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!" the voice is getting farther away, so I know that we're either outrunning her our she hasn't noticed s yet.

I hear something to our right, and I shove Juliet into the bushes and tell her to be quiet. My father emerges. "Jerry, what the hell are you doing out here?" He smells of whiskey. He's been drinking.

I stay still, and I hear someone talking to Jerry. I peek out, to see a man who smells disgusting.

"Taking a walk," I lie. He narrows his eyes. "You're running away, aren't you?" I shake my head, fear in my eyes. He steps forward and punches me in the stomach. The wind is knocked out of me and I dropped to the ground. "Don't lie to me you ungrateful runt."

"Leave him alone!!" I scream, I run out of the bush to Jerry. "Are you okay!?" I turn to the man. "What is wrong with you!?"

My father looks mildly surprised, then amused. I grab at Juliet's ankles. "Run," I manage. My father shoves me aside with his foot to get a look at Juliet. "And who might you be?"

I back away. "That's none of your business." I scooch towards Jerry.

He grabs her arm. "Who are you?" he repeats. His words are slurred terribly. "Leave her alone, John," I wheeze. I never call him dad.

"Let me go!" I try and pull my arm away. "Let go of me!" I kick him, but he won't let go. "M-Mandy! My name's Mandy!"

"Hm.... Mandy, what a pretty young lady you are." I sit up. "Leave her alone." But he just kicks me down again. "Shut up!"

"Leave him alone!" I'm shivering. I never knew that parents actually did this. And what was that horrid smell!?
