I stopped and looked back at the girl. "What?" I yelled over the music from my iPod.
-
I looked at her, not knowing what to do. I pointed to the ocean and stared at the waves.
"Look." -
"Yes, it's water. I've seen it a million times." I sighed.
-
My stare was still warm, but I was disapointed.
So she doesn't see.
"No. Look."
I pointed again to the crashing waves, it's gentle rhythm. It's purpose was to crash,to flow.
"Are you like the waves?" -
"I don't know. What are you talking about?" I stared at her like she was crazy. They were just waves.
-
No, she was empty. She saw nothing, saw no purpose.
"The waves. They crash, they leave. Crashing and leaving. Are you like the waves? Crashing.....and now you leave?"
I was never a straight-forward person. She was frustrated, but I was hopeful. -
"No. Now leave me alone." I walked away from her, figuring that I should probably get back to Grandma's.
-
"You're alone, aren't you?" I turned back to the waves.
I didn't care if she left, I would not follow. She was empty, hollow. She was free to go. -
"Yeah..." I murmured.
-
I turned. "And why is that?" I leaned over, picking up sand in my left palm, sifting through the heavy grains.
-
"None of your business. J-just leave me alone."
-
"I'd leave you alone if you wanted to be alone. You continue to speak, so you must want company." My French-Russian accent was hanging heavy on my breath, tainting my words. "Come here, tell me what you see."
I walked into the water, my feet drenched in the frozen bliss. With my other palm, I cupped some fresh water. -
I don't know why, but I did what she said. "Well?"
-
I slapped my hands together, water and sand mixing. I through my hands in the air, letting it fall down in a glittery haze of silver, like a dust or powder.
"You can change your reality, you just need to think."
I turned towards her. "What troubles you?" -
"Nothing troubles me."
