Here's what I have so far...
Thirty-Eighth: A Daydream

I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Three days. Three days since the first murder. One person was murdered. There were three witnesses. The witnesses were murdered shortly afterward, with their own witnesses to their deaths. Those to witness that murder were killed later. Each time someone was murdered, there were witnesses. The witnesses were killed, having their own witnesses. It was a pattern.
Thirty-seven. That was how many deaths there were. Who would be the thirty-eighth? I shivered as I thought about it. I prayed it wouldn’t be me. If it were, well, why would it be? I would never be in such a situation. -

I know. That's what I was thinking. The murders continue until the narrator is a witness. Then... well, uh, that's where my dream was. The rest I'm making up.
