Save the Polar Bears!
Did you know that many exotic species of animals are on the verge of extinction? Polar bears are one of the very many animals on the endangered species list. They live in the tundra, one of the coldest places on Earth, and also, one of the biomes that are affected most by human activity. Humans are killing off the polar bears ruthlessly. Protecting them is important, and we must take action before it becomes too late.
Everyday, people are finding more and more dead polar bears. Why? Global warming is affecting the Arctic. It’s warming the waters, which also affects the fish that polar bears prey on. They get confused when migrating, because of the water’s warm temperature. They don’t go back to the Arctic due to confusion. The same goes for seals, another species of polar bears’ prey. Now, because of the lack of fish and seals, they have less to eat. They then starve. Global warming not only warms the waters, but even worse, it actually melts the ice at the Arctic as well. Seals live on the ice, and since there is less and less ice, there are now less seals for the polar bears. There are also poachers who kill off the polar bears for their thick fur. This act is cruel and is also another reason of why they are reaching extinction.
The greenhouse effect is affecting the Arctic. There are holes in the ozone over the Arctic, which means that heat can’t be absorbed, when it should. Excess heat enters, and can’t escape, so it ‘recycles’. Now, the excess amount of heat melts the ice little by little, and destroys the polar bears’ habitat. Ships that ship items release carbon into the atmosphere, along with other vehicles. Carbon is harmful to the environment and also causes global warming. Digging for fossil fuels is also harmful, but releases an even more dangerous gas called methane. These gasses cause the holes in the ozone layer, which cause the warming of the Earth, and cause the endangerment of polar bears.
Some people may think that polar bears aren’t important, that they’re not needed on Earth, that they are just another reason to get worked over nothing. that there is no point in saving this species, seeing that they don’t play a big role in their own lives. Other say that they aren’t doing all the dirty work that affects the environment, so why should they help? Some others may also think that there isn’t much sense in saving them anymore, seeing that they’re near extinction already and that we are already doing what we can to save the bears.
But it is indeed important to take actions now. Polar bears ARE needed on Earth. They DO play a big role in our lives. It may not seem like it, but the extinction of one species sets off a chain reaction, which may (and most likely will) cause the extinction of even more species of animals. It will most certainly affect us as well. And though we aren’t going around, shipping things from China and releasing so much carbon into the air, we still buy the products that are distributed from there, which is basically another way of saying, â€I support the ships that are causing global warming.“ You ARE affecting the environment by simply buying a product that was transported by a ship. And we aren’t doing all we can. We can do so much more to save them, but we just aren’t doing all that we can.
To save the polar bears, we MUST stop trying to dig for fossil fuel. We won’t be able to do it quickly, but of course, we can gradually reduce the amount of fossil fuels used. We, ourselves, can also help out by not buying products with many carbon miles, and by being more efficient. We should buy energy efficient light bulbs instead of the regular, older florescent bulbs. We should recycle, which helps the environment greatly. With everyone teaming up, we could help the polar survive for many more generations. -
I'm not Ting, but that's good. I suck at essays. God, I think I'll fail that project.
