Thread Topic: What do you wish all newbs knew?

@ThatCoolPerson
No Sweat i was referring to myself i'm sorry for the confusion -
Hold on, okay.
So I'm looking for answers like this:
Response: Don't bump threads until they're off the first page.
Explanation: Threads on the first page are still plainly visible, and while it may feel pressing that your thread be at the top of the page so people can see it, it comes across rude and selfish, like you think your thread is much more important than those that are active at the moment.
I'm asking for a bit of advice, and when I ask you to elaborate, I mean, please explain why you're giving that advice and why it's valuable. Okay? -
Okay, uh can we have things like useful links, explaining the statuses, status bar, when the site is most active, about personal threads, vent threads, public threads, list of mods, some quiz tips, how to level up, conversation ethics, post timers, offsite contact, important activities on here, pfp rules, content allowed, etc etc
I doubt this would be of help, but ^ -
I think there are a few threads scattered around the site that explain most of those things. Would you like links to them, coolperson?
-
Okay, i guess.
-
I'm asking, because you're new yourself and it seems like you might not be aware of all of those things. If you're not really interested, you can say that. You're not obligated.
-
(Please let me know if you'd prefer I don't participate, and I will be happy to respect that. /gen)
I'm trying to determine how to explain this further, but— it would be nice to have some kind of "thread bump etiquette" guide beyond the first page rule. I've noticed newer users tend to have a habit of commenting on multiple "old" threads, which can be overwhelming. -
Everyone in this community is welcome regardless of anything that may have happened between myself and them, just to be clear. I don't think my personal drama has any place in the dealings of a welcome committee.
Okay, I think we can address that. How old do you suggest a thread be before it becomes off limits to bump? -
For me, I think it's less about the thread age and more about the number of threads that are bumped at one time, if that makes sense? Not sure how others feel about that
-
Personally, if a thread is old, like more than a few days or a week, don't bump it. Honestly, it's annoying to see a month old thread bumped.
-
Okay, how many threads do you think is appropriate to bump in one go? I think it's safe to say we should mention some kind of limit on threads that are past the first page of activity, but we'll need a more solid guideline, unless we want to leave that up to new users' discretion.
-
Well, honestly, Alex, I think if it's just the one, maybe two, if would be okay? Just because they're curious, maybe they found a subject they're really excited to engage with and I don't think that should be wholly discouraged. I think Dark is probably right about the just needing a limit on how many old threads should be bumped at once.
-
Only one or two. Also don't double bump threads. If no one replies don't try bumping it again
-
Yes, one or two. I think that's fine. Just not a lot, because then it's annoying.
-
That sounds good to me. Dark, would that be alright with you?
