Thread Topic: Do we need labels?

Just like my ladt thread! In this one I'd like to know your opinion on if labels are important or not, and why you think so!
Again, I'm not going to critiscise anyone's point of view as I just want to hear other opinions!
By labels I mean things like " lesbian" or " autistic" and not labels on foods.
Not posting on the wine cellar as I don't want to have a debate -
Yeah. Because it get kinda confusing without them.

So we have fruit. Fruit describes a series of plants that have similar structures.
Subcategories of fruit would include apples, oranges etc.
Labels are the same way.
They make things easier to identify. They aren't always necessary and you don't have to use them, but they help us in society to conceptualize abstract concepts and better understand subsets of places, people, and things.
I'd say it's personal preference if you want to self identify using labels, but for me personally having labels helps me comprehend abstract ideas. Like knowing my personality type. Me knowing what my functions are and what other people's functions are helps me understand them better. I like to use labels as a tool to be able to understand people and their needs. -
But sometimes Labels restrict us. Say someone labeled themselves as a lesbian for the longest time, and then suddenly found themselves attracted to someone of the made gender instead of the female one. It creates an internal conflict when you go against the "label" that you've given yourself.
I choose not to label myself, and for me personally, I find everything so much easier. I'm attracted to whoever I'm attracted to, I'm whatever gender. -
To summarize I'd just say that labels can help us categorize otherwise hard to distinguish categories. Like I said fruit might be harder to distinguish of we didn't have names for each of them, and I think people are the same. We are all unique and just as you might describe someone as happy and another people neurotic, we can use identity labels to help us in the same way. They don't have to carry intrinsic weight. We can chose to make all labels equal because you're not less of a person if you have a mental disorder or a physical disability.

Key word: "need".
Answer: no, not really.
Do they help though? Yes, perhaps. Not always. -
Say someone labeled themselves as a lesbian for the longest time, and then suddenly found themselves attracted to someone of the made gender instead of the female one.
If I’m understanding this post correctly, you could choose to instead use the word “queer” or “bi” or even “pan”.
Unless I misunderstand.
Generally labels can be more broad or specific, depending on what it is.
Just not too specific. -
Need a label? Nah.
Get one assigned to us? Usually.
Are they useful? Sometimes.
Are they desirable for the person being labeled? Depends on the situation.
