As someone who's regrettably experienced such an absurd comment, I know better than to say that. People often think it's a 'phase', but once the victim actually takes their own life, it's a tragedy that could have been avoided. They would rather avoid the topic completely and be ignorant instead of trying to help. It's saddening.
