Thread Topic: Very important question
-
Between a Knight, Rook and Bishop, which is most important in terms of value? I've been arguing this all day.
-
Rook, I'd say.
-
They can essentially go wherever the f--- they want.
-
But they can also be attacked, by a minor piece like a pawn, which is a major weakness.
-
I do not agree on this, but chess.com says that the point value of bishops and knights is 3, while the point value(I hate that term) of a rook is 5. Queen is 9, pawn is 1, and the king has no point value since you really don’t capture it in the game. Some chess players argue that the knight should be worth 3.5 or maybe even 4, but chess.com has not gotten back on this. I think it depends how the game is at that point
-
But, depending on their usefulness, bishops could be slightly better, when you have both dark and light squares. Rooks are very useful in endgames. Knights can attack pieces without actually being close to it ie: N×Q'sq.

very confusing topic…

I love chess so this is a hard question!!
I really think it depends on your strategy and who your opponent is.
If I was put in a situation where I had to chose to only have one on the board I think I'd personally keep my knight. Merely because my queen and pawns can to a certain extent perform the tasks of rooks and bishops, but absolutely nothing replaces a knight. The strategic maneuverability of a knight is just unparalleled and can really catch an opponent off guard.
Now as far as what my favorite chess piece is I've got to say I think pawns are the most valuable. I know that seems insane but they are so helpful. They're your first line of defense and without them you leave yourself really open. They're also great for baiting opponents. -
My brother is on his way to the title of chess master. He is one of the best players in the state and almost made nationals before covid shut down the tournaments. I like to brag about it because I'm seriously super proud of him. Playing chess against him is absolutely miserable. I used to win against him all the time when he was little and now he wins invariably in the most smug ways possible.

Honestly, I like doing bishop-knight and rook-knight and even pawn-knight combinations, so for me I am good at knights. I like using them in the openings and the endgames. Rooks, on the other hand are ONLY useful at the end, where you can actually get them out. Bishops are confusing. They are really useful only when there are a lot of pieces because they can only attack one color. More pieces, less protection for the other side. Bishops at the end are terrible. Let’s say that you have just a king, a few pawns, a rook, and a knight or a bishop. If I was given that choice, then I would choose a knight because it can potentially touch all squares. On rook vs knight though, I would want a rook at that point. It all depends on what the board looks like to me.

That's a talent. My cousin taught me how to play chess and i've been really good at it.
I wish i could play with you on site, could the algebraic notations be possible? I have a board and i could move the pieces for you. -
Have you heard about chess.com? We can try that…
-
I know notations as well but I do not have a board with me right now but I have chess.com. I know I can do pass and play on it, but if I am on chess DOT com then I would rather play lol
-
Algebraic: ie, e4, Nf3, etc.
can you move my pieces for me in or does the siteallows java less mobiles? -
I don’t think it does. I dunno
