Thread Topic: Guys this is is really big

So the school counselor sent out an email earlier today. It was really short, only like two sentences long, but it basically said that anyone who sang or played an instrument and was interested in a touring opportunity in the summer come talk to her.
Turns out when she said touring, she meant touring Great Britain, like this is big.
I mean, the nominations are just so that the people see how many people in the state are interested in it, applying and probably some auditions are going to be a whole other thing and plus I would have to talk to my parents before even considering doing it.
But still like I'm super excited about this even though there's no chance I'm going. -
Dude that's awesome! I was almost able to do that in highschool too but my parents couldn't afford it. If you're able to go you definitely should. Hopefully things will calm down politically so you can! It's super worth it. Hopefully your parents let you. Also if finances are an issue, I found out way too late that most school's financial aid programs will sponsor you to go or help reduce costs.
-
She said that they said something along the lines of not to worry about the money, but I remember the way she worded it made it seem like you might have to, and she said she wasn't sure what their financial aid was like and that she was going to be getting more information on it soon.
-
I talked to my mom and she gave me an immediate "Do it."
-
Good luck. Do make extra sure the finances are taken care of, as soon as possible- I had a high school trip get ruined last minute because of something like that.
The only way there's "no chance of you going" is if you don't apply! -
Ahh! That's awesome. Absolutely do it. It is so so so worth it I'm excited for you!
-
DO IT IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU

True. It's just probably going to be pretty low. But there is absolutely no way I'm not going to do it.
I don't know if this is going to be just a bunch of the kids in this state or from all over the country.
I still have to tell my dad about it
They said average or above skill for this.
I know I'm definitely going to do clarinet. In 8th grade I got into 8th grade All State. I was close to last chair, but still, that means I was the 15th best clarinet in my age group in the state. Without even trying. If I had actually tried I could have gotten much higher.
Piano, I don't think I will do. It does depend on what they mean by "average." With clarinet, almost everyone starts in 5th grade. But with piano, people pick it up at all ages. I'm actually below average for how long I've been playing, most high schoolers who have been playing for as long as I have are at mid to late advanced and I'm on the cusp of early advanced. Plus, a ton of people play piano, probably for just as long as I have. So I need to look into what level is considered average.
For voice, I could do it. I'm above average and I know just enough to be dangerous. Plus my mom could help me a ton. But I need to see if it's going to be solo or choir. There's no way I'm doing it if it's solo stuff, but if it's a choir I'll be fine. -
You should totally go!! That would be awesome!
-
So I know at least for the trip I was supposed to do it was school by school and depending on the size and the talent, the band director got to choose how people went. My school was small so he just pulled the ones he wanted aside and said he chose us to go if we could make it, but for larger schools they might do an audition process just to seem more fair. I have no doubt that you could make it if you do have to audition, though
-
My advice for what to audition for really is about what you want to do first of all, but also from my perspective I will say that vocals are probably going to be the most competitive section to go into. With vocals unfortunately it has much less to do with your training and more to do with raw talent and curb appeal. If you're a section leader in your choir you could probably do it but in my experience it's the most soul crushing section to compete in. I'd definitely recommend trying out for everything you want to do, though.. just thought I'd give my insight

I go to a school with 72 kids. We're small.
But basically the bottom line is I need to wait for my school counselor to get more information. -
Good luck to you hope it goes well!
-
I am section leader, but there's only two other sopranos in the choir.
Honestly the most training I've gotten is "Open your throat" "Breathe with your stomach," and "This is how you pronounce words while singing."
I'd say I'm pretty talented. I have a natural good tone, and I'm able to pick up a tune pretty quickly.
But before I apply for vocals I need to see if it's solo or choir. -
I told my dad last night and he also told me to do it.
Here's hoping I get in!
