I'm sort of speechless right now
-
Is it a good film?
-
Yeah
Basically this guy's whole life was a lie. He was an unwanted child at birth and was the first legal adoption by a corporation.
He was basically kept inside a gigantic dome that could be seen from space. Inside this dome Truman lived his life where everyone around him was an actor. His parents, his wife, everyone. And there were thousands of cameras hidden everywhere. His whole life was broadcasted on TV 24/7, no ads, even when he slept.
And he had no idea. He had been raised inside this dome-shaped stage, it was all he knew.
And then I think he was around 30? But he started noticing the strange things about the place and started to suspect that things weren't right. -
Love that movieš„°

The scary thing is how legal it could be.
While he was a child, it was pretty legal. This might fall somewhere under the realm of child labor laws. But even then it was okay because he was adopted by the corporation and a child is allowed to work for their parents for no pay until they're an adult. However, there would probably be some debate, because he didn't know he was on television, he didn't know he was an actor. Then the question would be, is it legal if the child doesn't know they're working?
Now, when Truman turned 18, things would start to get a little more complicated. He would start having to get paid. We don't know if he had a job then. He probably would have to help himself get through college, but if not, then this would be illegal. Even when he did get a job, what kind of money was he getting paid in? Was is just a bunch of fake money that you could get at the dollar store or real American cash? If it was the former, would it count as him getting paid since it was the currency of Seahaven? Since everything was fake, you could use the logic that he wasn't getting paid to be an insurance agent, but for his acting.
Things definitely got illegal when he wanted to leave for Fiji. It would be considered kidnapping. His legal guardian was the corporation, so the dome would be considered his home. He wanted to leave and they physically stopped him from leaving with the lack of flights and the traffic that wasn't going to be moving anytime. Then with the storm stopping him from leaving and nearly killing him, that was a major screw-up on their part.
But yeah -
They were so obsessed with the money that THEY were getting, that they were pretty much gonna do whatever they could to stop him from leaving.
Poor guy honest I agree -
Yeah
Also, the fact that this had been going on for 30 years, they didn't want it to fail after all this time.
