If my pets died - I’d acknowledge their death, definitely cry when I thought of them, but I wouldn’t think too strongly of the fact that they’re still lurking around, since if I did believe that they’d go to heaven of some sort, they’d be there instead of haunting the person who loved them loads

I really don't think that's the best solution to this problem. Animal friends can be great for your mental health. I think you should be looking into grief management, rather than withholding love altogether.
