Thread Topic: Why is it so hard?
-
Wanna start a conversation. Would love to keep a conversation. But before I know it, there's awkward silence and I find myself only able to answer with:
"Hm."
"Alright."
"I suppose so."
"I guess."
"I don't know."
"Okay then."
People take it as me being rude, but I honestly just don't know what to say.
Or, people as "how are you doing," and I answer, but I often don't think to ask them the question. It's a common curtesy, I know, but for whatever reason, I just can't ask them back, 9 out of 10 times.
If I start a conversation, I'm told I'm rambling or being selfish, going on and on only about what I like. (It makes me comfortable and it's easier for me to speak on the subject, but again, I don't mean to seem rude, but...)
Is this normal? Is it just me?
Like, why is it so hard? -
*ask

Usually if there’s an awkward silence between me and someone else it’s because I’m talking to someone else at the same time
if you’re referring to GTQ
If you’re talking about irl, then yes I relate. -
I was referring to anytime, actually. It's always like that.
-
I’ve got advice, just to let you know. I’ll take a few minutes to type it out XD

Alright, so it may be awkward at first but just push on. Eventually, the other person will speak on and you can get into a really nice and casual conversation. The worst case scenario would be that the conversation drops off.
-
I drop so many conversations. Like, every time it's my turn to speak, I can't really say anything. This has been going on ever since I can remember.
-
On here, I can carry on a conversation like nobody's business. But in real life, I'm not th best of conversationalists. I try to carry the conversation, but my mind just blanks.
What I usually do is say something about what you just talked about, or what the topic you just talked about reminded you of. That usually helps me keep it going.
