And I'll also tell you about mine.
I'm just making this so that we don't clutter up other threads. -
We got our first dog, Sandy, about three years before I was born. We got her from the humane society. They were going to put her down because she had been there forever and no one wanted her. We got her 24 hours before they were going to actually do it. She was named Sandy, because she looked like Sandy from Annie.

I guess I’ll start from the beginning. We got my first dog when I was probably about 1 year old, and she was a german shepherd and coonhound mix (awesome dog). And then we took in a chocolate lab who had been abandoned by his previous owner and when my mom first saw him, she said he had a huge burn mark on his back but he was literally one of the happiest dogs ever and loved everyone. And then the next dog we got was a white german shepherd and husky mix. When our chocolate lab died, we got another chocolate lab and then when our german shepherd/coonhound died, we got Bama (who we thought at first was a german shepherd mixed with border collie but now we realize that she’s a Tervuren or a Belgian Shepherd
only took us ten years to realize that) and then when our husky/shepherd mix died, we got a Great Pyrenees who I personally think is the cutest puppy that we’ve had because he was just a little ball of fluff and then he grew to be this massive 160lb dog, but he was so gentle. And then when our lab died, two years later we got Stanley from a kill shelter here and we think that he’s either a lab and boxer mix or a lab, boxer, and pitbull mix (we literally have no idea other than we’re sure he’s a lab), and then a couple weeks ago we had to put down our Great Pyrenees -
Her last owners abused her. They were trying to make her into a guard dog, but she wasn't a guard dog. They'd throw her down steps, and things like that. She hated men. She was ok with kids, and liked women the best.
Eventually my dad and her formed a good relationship, and so did one of our family friends.
When I was born, my parents weren't sure how she'd react to me. So they put me on a blanket in the living room, and when Sandy found me, she laid down on the blanket as if she was saying, "My baby." -
Oh, wow. That's a lot of dogs.

Sandy was the best dog ever. But she never really played. She wouldn't play with toys or with us. But she loved her bones.
She loved her food. We'd accidentally drop some, and she'd run from across the room, and be in time to catch it midair. And the rare times it would hit the ground, she'd even lick the essence of whatever food it was off the floor. -
Awww that’s so cute about you and Sandy! I thinks dogs have a natural instinct to protect babies and young kids because my first dog (shepherd/coonhound) was really protective over me and my siblings and hated strangers and when someone would come over to fix something in the house, she would sit there and stare at them and growl. And she was a big dog and probably looked really scary because she was all black with a tan underbelly and had massive paws, but she was so gentle with us kids

And yeah, I’ve had 7 dogs haha. I plan on getting two dogs when I get an apartment because it’s hard for me to be away from any dog for more than half a year. When I lived in Hawaii, I would go to the humane society and pet the dogs at least once a week
-
Sandy was medium-sized. But she'd always growl at strangers, and when we told her "No barking," she'd sniff their shoes, just to make sure they weren't an axe-murderer
-
Half a year? I can hardly stand a week!
-
She also seemed to have a taste for flies, I noticed.

We got Sparkles about two years before we had to put Sandy down. She was such a bad influence on Sandy 😂
But I think having the other dog there was good for Sandy. She was starting to get seizures, and things. It's so weird when your dog doesn't recognize you. -
Yeah, but when you’re doing a lot of studying and working, you tend to lose time cause you’re so busy. But there were definitely times where I spent every day out of the week going to that shelter and seeing the same dogs
-
I never visited the shelter just to pet the dogs.
But one of my camps (that's unfortunately cancelled this year) goes for an entire week. When I come home from it, Sparkles and I are inseparable. -
I used to have a little Chihuahua named Chloe, I remember when we found Chloe she was just a little puppy hiding under my mom's car, but the problem was me and my sister had to go to school that day so after alot of struggling we got her out from under the car, and she was shivering and shaking really bad because it was winter so we took my mom took is to school then she walked around the neighborhood asking if Chloe was theirs and she wasn't anyone's dog so we kept her and I remember she used to crawl under everyone's blankets and stuff and she would jump into the bathtub and we'd say "there's a rat in the bathtub" and once while we were gone and my mom was thawing chickens in the bathtub Chloe jumped in and she couldn't get back out of the bathtub and ended up drowning
