Thread Topic: Cat advice needed

Someone ding dong ditched a pregnant cat on our property a few days ago, and she gave birth. She really wants inside of the house and is very friendly. You can tell she came from a loving home that was just too stupid to get her fixed.
Would it be safe for us to let her inside & let her bring the little ones in? We have 3 indoor/outdoor cats that are leery of her, but I don't want the little ones to die. This cat seems way too young to be a mommy. :( -
Yes, but be gentle with it. The first thing you want to do is get the mom checked out, then her babies. Keep them all away from your cats you already have. Introduce them slowly once the kittens are old enough and the mom's well enough.
Also, call the local shelter if you want them to take them off your hands.
I don't have any cats, but I'm ready for one whenever I can afford it. I also hope to be a veterinarian one day.
Hopefully this is helpful. -

I'm not sure who all is open in my town in terms of clinics, but we're going to have to get in touch with someone since we can't afford to feed so many kitties! I'll keep all of this in mind, thank you so much!
If we need to move the kittens for any reason, is there a specific wait period? Like, do they have to be a few days old before handling?? -
They'll need 1-2 weeks, to be safe. But if you can find professional help, they could figure out how to transport them safely.

hi clara:(

As long as you're gentle with them and have clean hands you can move them. I recommend a cardboard box or a laundry basket with a blanket in it. If keep both the mother cat and kittens away from the other cats for now. As long as they're in a dry, warm space outside you don't really HAVE to move them, but you can give them a box or something if you feel like it'd make them warmer/more comfortable. We used to have dozens of kittens when I was really small, the momma cats would have then under the feed sheds and inside old cars. We usually moved them inside the barn to keep them safe. Just be gentle and use two hands.

It is important, that you do everything right with the babys, especially with the mommy around, because she could get angry and bite. Her life goal is always to protect her children.

The mother is so young that she doesn't seem to understand that the kittens are hers and that she needs to care for them. She's let the ferals & my cats go up and hiss at the kittens, and she just kind of stares there with this ? expression. That's why we want to bring her inside and seclude the kittens, since we're worried she's not defending them as she should. But I don't want to handle them bc they're sooo new to the world

I think that you should maybe set up a place for her in somewhere more private, like a room, so that you can keep the other cats away from the kittens and you can keep the mama and kits together.
